Life 88.5 Listeners Step Up to Feed Their Neighbors

Over the past eight Tuesdays, Kansas City radio listeners have shown what can happen when a community comes together with open hearts and a shared purpose. Through Life 88.5’s Terrific Tuesday initiative, friends and families across the metro collected more than 20,000 pounds of groceries to help fight hunger. This amount doubled last year’s total.

Each Tuesday leading up to Thanksgiving, Life 88.5 joined listeners in a different community to collect food donations. From Lee’s Summit to Overland Park to Weston, neighbors showed up, rain or shine, to give from their cupboards and their hearts.

Every pound of food stayed in the community where it was collected often going straight to local pantries just down the street from the collection site.

“Our listeners are the real difference-makers,” said Life 88.5 Program Director Melony McKaye. “Every can and every box is a story of hope and compassion. This is what it looks like when faith becomes action. We are so thankful to see God’s love shining through our community.”

After surpassing last year’s total of 10,000 pounds, Life 88.5 set this year’s goal at 20,000. The ambitions target was surpassed during the final collection in Weston Missouri.

The Terrific Tuesday initiative is one way listeners of Life 88.5 continue to put encouragement into motion, spreading joy, hope, and kindness across Kansas City.
