KCBI Listeners Shatter Blanket Drive Goal for Homeless
Winter weather is coming. A blanket can make the difference.
With freezing temperatures, snow and ice expected across North and Central Texas, KCBI launched a 24-hour Blanket Challenge at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, to help protect our homeless neighbors.
Partnering with Our Calling in Dallas Fort Worth and Church Under the Bridge in Waco, KCBI challenged listeners to provide 1,000 warm blankets by 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22, ahead of dangerous winter weather. Each blanket can make an immediate, life-saving difference.
The response was overwhelming.
Listeners met the challenge within 90 minutes of the first announcement. By 8:30 a.m. Thursday, the goal was more than quadrupled! Over 4,400 blankets were donated, providing warmth and opportunities to share Jesus’ love with those without shelter.
With the blanket goal far surpassed, Our Calling asked KCBI to pivot to another urgent need: sweatpants. When people experiencing homelessness arrive at Our Calling’s shelter to escape the cold, having clean, warm and dry clothing provides immediate comfort, dignity and warmth.
Again, KCBI listeners went above and beyond. As of 7:00pm, more than 1,800 were donated!
“A warm blanket or a pair of sweatpants can provide critical protection in dangerous weather,” said KCBI Program Director Kelly Corday. “Our listeners responded with deep compassion and urgency.”
As temperatures drop, teams from Our Calling and Church Under the Bridge are preparing to brave the cold, distributing blankets and offering care, prayer, and encouragement to those most at risk.
90.9 KCBI in Dallas is one of the nation’s most-listened-to Christian radio stations, known for Encouraging Music and Words of Hope. 92.9 KCBI extends that same message across Central Texas.
