Shine 104.9 Hosts Be Bold For Jesus Conference and Builds Community Through Service

For the past 6 years, Shine 104.9 has partnered in hosting the Pacific NW’s largest discipleship event, the Be Bold for Jesus Conference. The non-profit CCM radio station, which serves Spokane, WA and Northern Idaho, helps plan the conference with He’s the Solution Ministry, and also sponsors the Night of Worship, which has featured Christian artists and bands over the years: We The Kingdom, Jeremy Camp, Laura Story, Danny Gokey, etc.

This year’s conference took place October 3-4, at the Spokane Convention Center. 8,000 attendees were inspired in their faith by in-person speakers, including Willie Robertson of Duck Dynasty, actor John Schneider of The Dukes of Hazzard, Olympic skater Scott Hamilton, Anne Graham Lotz, Dr. Ben Carson, comedian Tim Hawkins, and youth-stage speakers. A concert with Christian songwriter Anne Wilson wrapped up the weekend.

The Sunday morning following the conference, volunteers split into three groups focused on service projects in the Spokane community, led by Shine 104.9’s Chaplain Tyler Kern. One group served at a local food pantry, sorting donations and stocking shelves. Another group cleaned up trash and debris at a city park. The final group walked through downtown Spokane, engaging in encouragement and prayer with the homeless.

“This wasn’t just about praying for the homeless,” said Kern, “it was about being a non-judgmental, loving presence — reminding them they are seen and valued. We all have a story to tell. When someone asks you ‘How are you so sure that God exists?’ You can say, ‘I know because I have experienced His presence in my life.’”

Chaplain Kern has also been hosting weekly Bible Studies and seeker-friendly worship gatherings, sponsored by the station. Twenty-three souls were baptized into the Body of Christ at the weekend conference, and plans are already in the works for Be Bold for Jesus 2026 with hopes to expand to other regions.
