KSWP/KAVX Unites Community Leaders to Prepare for Hurricane Season
For the third year in a row, KSWP/KAVX hosted church and community leaders in preparation for hurricane season. In this short time period, the Church and Community Emergency Response Teams (CCERT) has grown to over 50 organizational members representing people from all across East Texas and Western Louisiana. The purpose of the team is to coordinate communication to provide reliable life-saving and life-giving information should a storm or major emergency occur.
Among those in attendance, this year was Nolan Smith, Oncor Area Manager, who discussed their role before, during and after a storm or outage. Also in attendance was Senior Meteorologist of National Weather Service in Shreveport, Jason Hansford, who presented the NOAA Hurricane outlook for 2023, “It is looking good with El Nino in place, however, it only takes one hurricane to make landfall and cause destruction, which is why it is important to be prepared.”
President/ GM Michelle Ross shared “KSWP and KAVX have been a part of East Texas for almost 38 years. Working together in partnership with area civic leaders, non-profit organizations and pastors is always exciting. As the team continues to grow the more confidence we have that our communities will be served well in the event of an emergency.”
CCERT continues to grow each year as a valuable lifeline to our community. Those who assist in times of crisis do not need to wait until near year’s meeting to be a part of the group. Contact Sarina DowLearn by email at sarina@kswp.org or 936-630-3280 for information.
