Dr. Michael Agee Announces Retirement from WGTS 91.9 and Atlantic Gateway Communications
With four-plus years at Atlantic Gateway Communications/WGTS 91.9, Mike Agee, Executive Director of Strategic Initiatives, concludes a 50-year career as a radio broadcaster and educator.
“Closing my career with President and CEO Kevin Krueger and the WGTS team is an honor. I will look back with great satisfaction on seeing God’s leading in my life. It has been truly miraculous,” says Agee.
Jerry Woods, WGTS 91.9 morning host, has worked with Agee at two radio stations and says, “He’s been an amazing mentor and friend. Not only has he taught countless lessons about radio, but countless lessons about life.”
Agee’s radio broadcasting career spans 47 years, with 38 in Christian radio, from Michigan to Idaho to Texas and, finally, serving in the Nation’s Capital at WGTS 91.9 in Maryland. Agee has held many roles, from on-air host, program director, manager, engineer, and sales associate. Agee has also been a professor, sharing his experience as he trained and mentored the next generation of communicators, completing his doctorate degree in education specializing in adult education. During his career, he helped many young people launch their own careers in radio.
Regardless of what role he had throughout the years, Agee says, “My mind is continually drawn to the stories I have heard from listeners and students about what God has done in their lives and my tiny part in that unfolding. What an amazing God we serve, that He would use a broken vessel like me to serve His purposes. Just amazing!”
“Working with Mike these last few years of his career have been a special blessing, says Kevin Krueger, President and CEO of WGTS. We’ve dreamed of working under the same roof since the early 1990’s and it finally happened here in Washington, D.C. and for that I am grateful. Mike has faithfully served young people through education and his radio listening family with a dedicated heart, boundless creativity, and just the appropriate amount of snarkiness. I wish him the best as he moves on to a well-deserved season of retirement.”
Agee will continue to contribute to radio broadcasting in a scaled back way, as he keeps in touch with his many friends and colleagues, while golfing, fishing, and traveling with his wife, Wanda.
