89Q’s “Hope in the Park” Draws Nearly 9,000, Strengthening On-Air Ministry Through Community Connection

89Q (WCLQ, Wausau, WI) celebrated another successful Hope in the Park on Sunday, August 24, welcoming nearly 9,000 people to Marathon Park in Wausau for an afternoon of worship, encouragement, and ministry impact.
Headliner Anne Wilson shared her chart-topping songs and shared new songs form her four-song EP titled God Story. Joseph O’Brien opened and Rob Roozeboom from Rise Ministries powerfully shared the Gospel.

The concert, now a hallmark of central Wisconsin summers, underscored how deeply live community gatherings fuel and extend the mission of Christian radio.
“This concert is truly a gift to our community,” said Coy Sawyer, General Manager of 89Q, in a WSAW-TV interview. “It’s about gathering together, celebrating hope that Christ brings us, and making a real difference for our neighbors.” For us (89Q), Hope in the Park is more than just a summer concert—it’s an extension of the station’s on-air mission – by engaging listeners face-to-face. We are able to deepen relationships, and hear first-hand listener’s powerful stories.
The impact of the event ripples far beyond music. Concertgoers donated over 1,600 food items to support the CAP Services food pantry, while Thrivent Financial contributed $3,000 to further assist families in need. These community partnerships not only meet practical needs but also give 89Q more to share with listeners on-air—stories of hope and generosity that align with the station’s core mission.
“Radio is about connection,” Sawyer said. “When thousands gather for an event like this, it builds trust and momentum that strengthens our on-air ministry throughout the year.”
