88.3 Life FM Collects Vital Supplies for LA Fire Victims
88.3 Life FM in Bakersfield, California held a collection event called Show Love SoCal on January 17th for those displaced by the Los Angeles Fires. After being in touch with a ministry in Simi Valley doing distribution, we asked what items were still in short supply, and the answer was diapers, pet food, and sleeping bags, so we got to work.
Life FM invited two other local radio stations to help in getting the word out. We set up a drop off space at the radio station parking lot, and throughout the day, over 125 cars came through, dropping off thousands of pounds of needed supplies. The event included volunteers from local ministries, Bakersfield Police Department, and members of the local ‘Star Cars’ (movie themed cars). As word got out, the community really mobilized and came together to make it a very successful collection. At the end of the collection, the truck was immediately loaded up and brought down to Spirit Life church, where the next morning a distribution event took place and over 3,000 people showed up to get needed supplies.
“Our goal as a local station is not just to exist in the community, but be hands and feet along side the community when there is a need. We are not here to make Life FM known, but to make Jesus known by doing what we can to motivate love to action.”
