KSWP/KAVX Unites Community for 6th Annual Disaster Prep Meeting

For the sixth consecutive year, KSWP/KAVX brought together church and community leaders to prepare for hurricane season and other emergencies. In just six years, the Church and Community Emergency Response Team (CCERT) has grown to more than 40 member organizations representing communities across East Texas and Western Louisiana. Created by KSWP, CCERT serves as a communication hub, providing reliable, life-saving information before, during, and after hurricanes, severe weather events, and other disasters.
“Although a developing El Niño may reduce the number of named tropical systems in the Atlantic Basin this season, one storm can still bring damaging winds, flooding rainfall, and isolated tornadoes to Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana,” said Jason Hansford, Senior Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Shreveport. “Now is the time to prepare.”
“Every year, it is encouraging to see more organizations come together with a shared commitment to serve East Texas,” said Michelle Ross, President and General Manager of KSWP/KAVX. “CCERT is about building relationships, sharing information, and strengthening our ability to respond when our communities need help most.”
CCERT continues to grow as a valuable resource for the region. Organizations interested in joining do not need to wait until next year’s meeting. For more information, contact StephaineMoree at stephaine@kswp.orgor 936-630-3270.
