FEBC Celebrates 80 Years of Life-Changing Ministry

Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC) is celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2026, marking eight decades of faithfully sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ through media to people and places where the message is least known and most needed.

Founded in the aftermath of World War II, FEBC began with a bold conviction: that emerging technology could be used by God to reach nations closed to traditional forms of ministry. In 1945, missionary pioneer Bob Bowman and a small group of believers reimagined the Great Commission for a world in recovery, launching broadcasts that carried hope across borders, cultures, and political barriers.

Over the past 80 years, FEBC has grown from shortwave radio into a global, multiplatform media ministry. Today, FEBC delivers Gospel-centered programming through AM/FM radio, satellite, digital streaming, podcasts, mobile apps, and social media, broadcasting local voices who are close to the listener, to serve audiences in 50 countries and 152 languages across Asia, Eastern Europe, Africa and beyond.

“FEBC has always existed for one purpose: to make Christ known,” said Ed Cannon, President and CEO of FEBC. “While the technology has changed dramatically over the last 80 years, the message has not. God continues to open new doors, and we are committed to using every platform He provides to reach the next generation.”

Bob Bowman often reminded supporters that technology was never the mission itself. “The radio is only a tool,” he said. “Our calling is to make Christ known where He has not yet been heard.” That founding vision continues to shape FEBC’s strategy today, combining innovation with trusted, local voices who understand the cultures they serve.
As FEBC celebrates this milestone throughout 2026, the organization is not only honoring the past but actively preparing for the future.

“This anniversary is not a finish line,” Cannon added. “It’s a renewed calling. We believe the next 80 years hold unprecedented opportunity for Gospel impact, and we are stepping forward in faith, trusting God to use FEBC in ways we cannot yet imagine.”
