CMB Industry Shout-out – Don Buettner
“I’ve worked with Don since 2006 when I started in promotion at EMI CMG. Don was hosting The Heart Of Worship radio show, and we immediately connected over those songs. He could see the impact of worship music from the very beginning and has continued to embrace it at Star since then. Don’s been doing this work for a long time and it’s really easy to continue doing things the same way. He’s worked with the consultants and seen all of the research and has done great work for the audience in his generation BUT he stays curious about the future which is something I really admire. Don’s dug in to understand the current music market and has adapted his approach in response to what he’s learned. He’s changed his rotations, his music strategy, and even added multiple new ways to measure a song’s impact and “success”. He’s dug in deeper on the mission of the radio station and has embraced many new initiatives at Star to reach beyond Christian radio’s women 25-54 mindset…reaching out to the black community, the Latin American community, to younger listeners and even to men. It takes courage to spend your entire career in radio and then adapt after 40 years. He’s done this and done this well.
