WGTS 91.9 Listeners Donate Toys for Tots
Dozens of WGTS listeners donated toys at the U.S. Marine Corps memorial in Arlington, Virginia, for the annual “Toys for Tots” toy drive. For the past four years, WGTS has teamed up with ABC-7 to broadcast from the Iwo Jima Memorial. Radio announcers appear on the television broadcast, and television anchors appear on the radio broadcast to encourage listeners and viewers to bring toys for over 150,000 children in the greater Washington, D.C., region. This is part of station’s greater Hands and Heart program to serve the community year-round. This year, donors gave enough toys to fill two, 26-foot box trucks to the brim.
“People showed up in SUVs, U-Hauls, and even one entire motorcycle club came to bring toys for kids who might not receive anything otherwise,” said WGTS director of promotions and community engagement Ken Scribner. “It’s been a tough year for many in our area, but once again listeners showed their willingness to share with those in our community who are struggling.”
