Johnny and Stacey Stone Sign Off From WGTS for the Last Time
(Rockville, Md.) – For nine-plus years, WGTS afternoon show hosts Johnny and Stacey Stone have kept listeners company from 3-7 p.m. each weekday. On Friday, August 8, the husband-and-wife duo said goodbye to listeners for the last time. Stacey has been on the air for total of 33 years, and Johnny has been on the air for 53 years.
On their final day at the station, the staff held a party for the couple and shared favorite memories. During the broadcast, current and former WGTS staffers as well as some VIPs stopped by. Christian Music Broadcasters (CMB) executive director Michelle Younkman was one of those special guests.
“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Johnny and Stacey for almost 30 years,” said Younkman. In addition to the joy, hope, and encouragement they gave to their listeners each day they have always been champions for the radio community. They have impacted so many lives. We are all better because of the Stones.”
WGTS CEO and President Kevin Krueger shared heartfelt thoughts on the Stones’ departure. “It is with a heart filled with gratitude that we all soaked up Johnny and Stacey’s final on-air shift as callers joined in to share their words of appreciation. I believe strongly in the value of a team that is close and works hard together. This closeness can make departures and retirements difficult, but we recognize in those moments just how special and valuable it is to have coworkers awe enjoy being around. We wish Johnny and Stacey well in their next season, and we are grateful for their service to the Nation’s Capital through WGTS 91.9.”
Stacey Stone reflected on her on the air in DC with her husband, “I cannot think of a more spectacular way to say goodbye to our listeners. WGTS is a family, and they know how to honor those who have served. We are off on our next adventure but praying for everyone still broadcasting the name of Jesus.”
The search is ongoing for the next team to take Johnny and Stacey’s place on the WGTS 91.9 afternoon show.
