Northern Christian Radio Rebuilds with Faith and Community Support
A powerful ice storm that swept across Northern Michigan during the last weekend of March brought down the 648-foot broadcast tower for WPHN/Gaylord (The Promise FM), the flagship station of Northern Christian Radio, Inc. The tower collapse destroyed the station’s transmitter building and marked the second major setback for the station within a year. Just last year, a fire destroyed WPHN’s previous transmitter site, forcing the organization into a costly and labor-intensive rebuild. The latest disaster left the station off the air and facing a financial shortfall.
Thanks to the generous support of their listeners and partners, Northern Christian Radio was able to significantly reduce its financial deficit. However, they still faced a deficit of several thousand dollars to fully meet their goal. But God had a plan.
This year, the highly anticipated Medi-Share Momentum Step Challenge returned—and it did not disappoint. Momentum attendees stepped up in a big way, collectively surpassing the 5 million steps goal. As a result, Medi-Share was able to respond with a $5,000 gift to Northern Christian Radio, helping support their ongoing operations and recovery efforts.
“This $5,000 gift was a huge blessing, helping to put us up and over our $500,000 six-month budget need!” shared Northern Christian Radio Executive Director, Pat Scott. “We’re deeply grateful to Medi-Share and trust the Lord as we focus on rebuilding our flagship station tower.”
CMB’s Executive Director, Michelle Younkman, said this about the partnership, “We are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to come alongside one of our own, Northern Christian Radio, during a time of need. Through the generosity of Medi-Share and the participation of our Momentum attendees in the Steps Challenge, meaningful support was provided to a ministry committed to giving more platform to the Gospel message. This is what the CMB community is all about – lifting each other up and living out the mission together.”
