3 Ideas to Help Brand New Radio DJs

1. Build a Character Brand Diamond – have the new on-air talent go to the 3-5 closest people in their life and ask them to describe them in one word. Have them gather the words and send them to you. You can combine the similar traits into four dominate traits with one being a skewed opposite.


2. Introduce simple Break Construction – teach them the basics of choosing the topic, preparing where to exit, defining who’s the star, and opening with a listener-focused bring-in line.


3. Consistent Coaching – in my experience new radio talent typically requires weekly coaching sessions focused on removing or adding one thing. You can’t overwhelm them even if you hear five things they should work on.
