Life 88.5 Hosts Brandon Heath at Lansing Correctional Facility

Overland Park, KS – May 29 2024 – Life 88.5 (KJNW/Kansas City) hosted Brandon Heath for a concert at the Lansing Correctional Facility in Kansas City. Over 1,300 inmates heard the Gospel and more than 50 now know Jesus.

“We are called to go and make disciples of all nations, but it is easy to forget our own communities. And those who lack community.” said Jack Moore, Life 88.5’s community engagement specialist. “Life 88.5 wanted to serve these inmates so that those who lack hope in this life may receive hope for everlasting life. Fifty men received salvation right there in the prison yard.”

In the week leading up to the concert, Life 88.5 shared stories from prisoners who already had faith in Jesus, and asked listeners to pray for the inmates who would encounter the Gospel at the event. At the concert, Melony McKaye, Life 88.5’s program director, connected with a man named Oscar. “He got tears in his eyes and said he feels how much Jesus has changed his life. But being behind bars, he wondered how those he loved would know.” Oscar went on to explain that his daughter heard his story on Life 88.5.

Melony added, “Looking around the yard and knowing each person brought their own story, the Holy Spirit reminded me of the great need we all have for Jesus. As one Brandon Heath song states: ‘Some might say people never change. But I disagree. Take a look at me.’”
