Compassion International, The Light FM, TWR, and CMB Bring Hope to Ghana Through Radio

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – October 18, 2023 – Compassion International, The Light FM, Trans World Radio (TWR), and CMB (Christian Music Broadcasters) all share a heart for the gospel and the people of Ghana. So when an opportunity arose to partner together – traveling to Ghana to distribute radios in remote villages where Compassion’s local church partners work – all four ministries jumped at the chance.

The team delivered 50 solar powered radios to each local Compassion church partner that they visited, along with more radios to be shipped later. The local churches will use the radios to further the gospel in their own homes and Compassion’s child development program and to introduce the gospel to non-churched people in their communities. Because the radios are powered with solar, Ghanaians will be able to listen to Christian programming through TWR’s station in the region and hear the gospel with or without electricity. The radios are also equipped with a flashlight, a practical solution during frequent power shut offs experienced by the people.

Matt Hahn, manager of influencer partnerships at Compassion, explained, “What I love is the message of God’s word going into these homes in Ghana well after we leave the region, allowing the local church to grow and flourish.”

The excitement was palpable at the local churches when the radios were distributed. Hahn said the scene was “like Christmas morning.” Michelle Younkman, executive director of CMB, echoed that sentiment, “What a remarkable experience to see so many Ghanaian faces light up when they received their solar powered radio! Now they have the opportunity to hear hope and encouragement every single day because of the tremendous efforts from The Light FM, TWR and Compassion.”

Although some of the ministries have partnered separately in the past, some going back decades, this was the first time all four organizations joined together in an effort like this. John Owens, general manager of The Light FM, a broadcast ministry of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, expressed, “To bring all of us together to pass out radios through Compassion partner churches and share the gospel through Christian radio is a huge blessing. May the Lord use this partnership in mighty ways for His glory!”

From its earliest days, TWR was built on partnering to spread the gospel to people and places where it hasn’t reached before through mass media. John Summerville, TWR’s director of radio partnerships, concluded, “What excites me about this project is that kids in the Compassion program will be able to share their radio with their moms and dads and brothers and sisters, and they’ll be able to listen to great Christian content together as a family every day. And we know from Isaiah 55:11, where God’s Word goes, it doesn’t return empty!”
