3 Proven Ways to Grow Your Radio Station
Just like the warmth of the sun during longer Spring days causes perennials to start pushing their way to the surface, your radio station can also enter a season of growth. Here are three proven ways to begin that growth cycle. Let’s dive into this week’s Beyond The 615 Column, article # 5.
- APPOINTMENT SET
I recently read that your listeners spend 93% of their time away from your radio station. So, you should use everything in your power to invite them to spend time listening. In the CCM format, that’s a much deeper ask than promoting song sweeps and your slogan. Benchmarks, your shared values, and major contests can help serve as special RSVPs to increase occasions and TSL.
- CAPTURE E-MAILS
Engaging your listeners on social media is necessary, but if those social media companies disappear tomorrow, they take all your time and effort with them. One way you can control content and engagement is through e-mail, so always capture e-mail addresses. But one common problem is that many radio stations have several different databases. It would be so impactful to import all those contacts into one database. Then, you can know if someone is a donor, on the music team, gets the weekly e-mail, and enters contests. You can also learn how to AND how often to communicate with them more effectively. When you can monitor and understand the life cycle of a listener and donor you can begin to set some amazing goals for every one of your team.
- CONNECT SONGS TO THEIR HEART
Help your listeners get to know a song’s impact better through proof of impact listener stories tied to a specific song or by using the story behind the song audio. Both produced pieces will have the most impact when the payoff is that particular song playing next.
I hope these tips have given you a “green thumb” to enter a season of growth.
