We have a confession: We have an addiction.

Did that grab your attention?  Good hook intro?  We’re addicted to hanging out with our listeners.

Remember way back to that very first time you considered radio as a career?  Who was your naysayer?  Kevin had an uncle who mocked, “Who’s gonna put YOU on the radio?!”  Taylor had a communications professor at Wheaton College tell her, “It’s a good thing you’re getting a minor in public relations; you should pursue that instead of radio.”  Chances are, if you are celebrating National DJ Day, you have a similar story.  But you persevered.  You pursued your passion, worked hard, and here you are.

Radio is a lot like going on a mission trip.  You think you’re going to love and serve and change lives, but the people you set out to minister to end up changing you.  That’s exactly what has happened to us with radio.  Our listeners have consistently inspired us to want to love God and love people better. They changed US.

The goal of our show is to represent the “welcoming heart of God” and when a listener shares with us that they are struggling to get sober, or confused about their identity, or feeling shame over a divorce, yet still feel welcome and safe listening to our show, we know we have done our job.

So please, no matter what pressures you are feeling today, that looming fundraiser, that listener that loves to complain, the personal trials with health, finances, kids, or aging parents…  Please remember you have the unicorn of jobs. You get to encourage people every day and tell them about the love Jesus has for them through this magic called radio.  Now that’s worth celebrating.  Happy National DJ Day!

When we moved to Atlanta to sign 104.7 The Fish on the air, we never dreamed we would become Atlanta’s longest running morning show. We never dreamed we could be syndicated, but 8 years ago it happened, with over 100 affiliates.  We are eternally grateful for the opportunity to do life together with our listeners for 24 years.  We try to never take it for granted.  Sure, we’ve had tough times, but we always kept our listeners in sight and what we could do to encourage them on a bad day. It’s our hope and prayer that the best is yet to come with the Kevin & Taylor Show.  Stay tuned!
