A Great Place to Exit a Radio Break
Knowing when and where to exit a radio break isn’t easy sometimes. I’ve written four articles on exiting, but it’s time for another… with a different perspective. Let’s dive into this week’s Beyond The 615 Column, article # 160.
EXITING A RADIO BREAK
It’s good to grow by examining adjacent industries. For example, a great song ending provides closure and resolves any musical or lyrical tension that builds up. A well-crafted outro can leave a lasting impression, making the song more memorable.
Like in a song, try to hear where your on-air story comes to a resolution. It’s an opportunity to leave the listener with a strong emotional response. I call that the peak of the break and it makes for a great place to exit.
HERE’S THE TAKEAWAY
Listen, feel, and look for the peak of your on-air break. If you have more to say, come back and do another on-air break. That keeps your show consumable and memorable while creating episodes with ongoing conversations on the same topic.
