This time of year can bring a lot of change! Maybe it’s a mom watching her little boy graduate from kindergarten or a college grad heading into their first full-time job. Although life is uncertain, we can rely on the Lord’s steadfast love to endure through every season. And this assurance can equip your listeners to face change with strength and confidence.

Here are four ways your listeners can face life’s transitions through the power of Christ:

Pray

We all go through periods when our lives take significant turns. Sometimes we forget that the first and best thing to do is pray about our concerns. You can encourage your listeners with uplifting passages for personal meditation, such as Psalm 55:12, Matthew 11:28, 1 Peter 5:7, and James 1:2-4.

It’s also part of God’s plan for the members of His body to pray for each other. Praying for our friends, families, and neighbors is a powerful ministry. Share this challenge with your listeners and include verses like Galatians 6:2, 1 Samuel 12:23, Job 42:10, and Numbers 21:7.

Of course, for many families, the life change of this season — graduation — is one to celebrate.

The audio prayers below are especially designed for the graduates in your audience. Listen to and download them for on-air play to encourage your listeners during this season. These audio clips feature Pastor P.J. Preston, Director of Liberty University’s Office of Spiritual Development.

Prayer for College Grads – 1 | Prayer for College Grads – 2

Listen

Praying for others has a way of opening our hearts to their needs. Encourage your listeners to look for ways to serve those around them who are facing the ups and downs of change. Maybe it’s helping with childcare, running errands, or bringing a meal. But often, it’s just being with them — offering a listening ear and a sounding board. Sometimes, people just need to talk!

Uplift

Every day in Christian radio, we have the great privilege to lift people’s hearts and point them to the Lord’s perspective. To help your listeners as they face seasons of change, we’ve selected four uplifting clips from our audio series “Minute on the Mountain with Liberty University Chancellor Jonathan Falwell”.

Give

Seasons of transition often bring particular financial needs. A new graduate may need a wardrobe, money for a deposit on an apartment, or assistance with travel expenses. Parents of a new kindergartner might need money for school clothes, supplies, or tuition. Encourage your listeners to look for ways to help their neighbors with these needs. By supporting others in this way, we bless them and please the Lord.

As station managers and on-air talent, election season can be difficult to navigate and maintain a positive mindset when there’s so much tension. However, as Christians, we should keep our focus on the Lord. Believers should be encouraged to vote because they play a critical role in ensuring that our nation’s policies and principles are anchored to the truth and guided by Scripture.

So, how can you equip and support your listeners during this election season?

The graduation season is such a pivotal time in the lives of our listeners. Whether it’s their children or those they know, listeners care about the future of these young people and how they can empower them as they step forward. This month, Liberty University spoke with several of its graduates to better understand the mindsets of these students as they move into their new chapters, and you’ll encouraged with words of affirmation and encouragement that you can offer to your listeners during this time. For audio, video, and social media resources you can use during the graduation season, please visit www.liberty.edu/cmb.

_______________________________

For many students, the month of May marks a turning point in their lives. Years of hard work and diligence yield their reward on graduation day as excited graduates don their caps and gowns, ready to close one chapter and begin the next. It’s also a time of reflection as they look back on the steps they took to get there.

In 2024, more than 29,000 students graduated from Liberty University, and each one has a unique story to tell. Four of these graduates are Cia, Hannah, Brandon, and Tommy. We asked them to share their stories about Liberty and any advice they have for future Champions for Christ.

What are your plans after graduating from Liberty?

“I’m moving to Nashville before the summer is up, Lord willing. I have no idea what I’m doing or where I’m going, but I’m trusting the Lord. He will provide a way and open the doors that He wants to be opened. Life is a faith walk, not a cakewalk!” — Hannah

“Lord willing, I will be a commuter coordinator with Liberty’s Office of Commuter Life, helping students through event planning, communications, connecting, and discipling.” — Brandon

“I am so excited to have the privilege of speaking at worldwide conferences while pursuing a master’s degree in biblical studies at Liberty with the hope of eventually becoming a professor!” — Cia

“I plan to continue in the creative industry by building my marketing agency. I also want to release music to uplift people and point them to the Father.” — Tommy

How have you seen God at work in your college journey?

“While at Liberty, God has shown me that I can’t be afraid to let myself be grown and pruned spiritually. This season of life is all about transition and being called into new things. Sometimes it was scary, but I learned to lean into the Lord and trust the process. I also learned to ask for help. We’re designed to dwell in community, and through others, God taught me to be vulnerable with the people He has placed in my life.” — Hannah

“I always see Him through my friends and community. The Lord loves to teach me and my friends things at the same time, so we are able to speak of His goodness and character together. Iron sharpens iron, and that has happened more during my time at Liberty than any other place or season.” — Tommy

Do you have any advice for those pursuing education?

“Education is so much more than the grades. If you strive for all A’s but never understand the incredible abilities you gain through learning, education will only be paper achievements and not genuine weapons for God’s Kingdom. Take time to delight in your studies. A proper view of them will equip you to change the world.” — Cia

“Remain steadfast in your goals and in the Word. Invest in your church; don’t just attend. Serve and be discipled — these two things will change your life.” — Tommy

“We are often told to get good grades, a good GPA, a good degree, a higher paying job, and so on, but that provides a negative framework for learning. However, with God, there is fullness of life and a renewed vision for learning and work. Hear the invitation from God to live, not just be alive. Live a life surrendered to Jesus as Lord.” — Brandon

What does being a Champion for Christ mean to you?

“I think of Colossians 3:23: ‘And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.’ I’m giving the Lord my best. Being a Champion for Christ is being bold and trusting in the Lord, allowing Him to do whatever He wants in my life!” — Hannah

“A Champion for Christ is someone who embodies Ezra 7:10. They have set themselves apart for the greater glory of God, which will do abundantly more than living for their own recognition ever could. They are sold out for the humble heart of Jesus and have found their true victory in His everlasting arms.” — Cia

Since 1971, Liberty University has held to its mission of Training Champions for Christ, and the stories of these new graduates show the impact a Christian education can make on their future. If you have a student in your life preparing for a major life change like a high school or college graduation, encourage them to seek Christ in all circumstances. Remind them that He will see them through every chapter so long as they keep their eyes on Him.

The post Living for Christ Through the Eyes of a College Graduate first appeared on CMB.

The post Living for Christ Through the Eyes of a College Graduate appeared first on CMB.

According to Google, one of the most asked questions by Christian professionals is, “Does my work mean anything to God?” As a ministry with a platform to reach many people, you are uniquely positioned to encourage and empower your listeners to embrace their God-given purpose within their current role. This month, Liberty University’s article and resources focus on content and perspective that you can share with your listeners on-air and online to inspire them to “expect great things from God and attempt great things for God” no matter what season or placement of life they’re in.

_______________________________

Recently, I was speaking with a Liberty University student who desires to one day serve the Lord in another cultural context. Their aim is simply to use their passion and career overseas to proclaim the Gospel.

However, the weightiest question for this student did not center around a physical move to another country or even learning a new language. It was whether their calling and future business profession would be understood as service and ministry to those who have never heard the Good News.

This is not an uncommon challenge among Christian young people who have predominantly understood service and ministry within the framework of the local church. But what about the public square that Christ compels His followers to enter? It says in Scripture, “And He gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds, and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11). The Apostle Paul meant for followers of Jesus to be sent out to do the work of ministry — within every sphere of society, in the public square.

I truly believe that the Christian mission must involve the complete Gospel and the whole person, including their professional calling, sent out from the local church to fulfill the Great Commission.

Followers of Jesus need to expand on the possibilities and potential of fulfilling the mission of God as Christ’s ambassadors in every sphere. To do this, Christian young people need a greater view of God and His glory to resonate louder than ever before in their lives and callings.

William Carey, an English Christian in Nottingham, England in 1792, pled with his fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord to lay themselves down for the cause of Christ and to “expect great things from God and attempt great things for God.”

This statement was rooted in Carey’s vision of relying on God’s glory alone to promote the Kingdom of Christ. Now, that is certainly bigger than any type of professional calling, but it does provide a goal in that all professions should lead toward the proclamation of Christ’s Gospel. It is a vision that sees the greatness of God, endures professional hardship, keeps resolve under pressure to compromise, and allows joy to produce faith.

The student I spoke with resolved to do this, which I hope all believers will do as well. As Christ’s ambassadors in every professional sphere, we should expect great things from God and attempt great things for God. How can you bring this approach into your career? Ask the Lord to show you how you can use your profession to further His mission.

Why me? Why this? Why now? We have all likely asked these questions when in the crucible of suffering. When Christ was suffering, He questioned God and, just as we do, asked, “Why?” Though He had the heart of God, in His agony, He turned to His Father with that very human question. Unlike Christ, however, our why questions seem to come from our commitment to living in a perfect world despite abundant evidence to the contrary. While we long for the peace of the Garden of Eden, we often find our experience closer to the Garden of Gethsemane. In that turmoil, our hearts ask questions like, “Why would God allow suffering in the first place? Why would He allow suffering to continue? Why doesn’t He do something?” We desire to understand and make sense of this world, even though most of our questions have no apparent answers or even no answers at all.

As natural as these questions may be, they breed only deeper confusion, but still we ask. In fact, our questions really demand an explanation, but God is not obligated to answer our questions. Even if God did provide answers, we probably would not accept them as justification for the suffering. Confusion abounds in these moments.

The questions that sufferers ask arise from the recognition that their circumstances do not fit with their worldview. They are shocked and bewildered when nothing seems to be as they thought. Suddenly, the beliefs that have never been questioned are unmasked as unreliable.

When we experience adversity, we live out our real theology. Suffering is, ultimately, applied theology. We want to provide a practical biblical theology of suffering and explore the impact of pain upon our lives. We offer scriptural and practical advice to help people walk with God through even the hardest times. Most people want to avoid or move through difficulties as quickly as possible. We pray for relief and risk missing God’s purpose in the pain when we attempt to avoid suffering. God is in this process and seeks to use the experience for our personal and spiritual growth.

The next time you find yourself asking these questions, seek the Lord’s wisdom and guidance. As we enter this Easter season, remember the suffering He went through for us on the cross. He understands the pain, and He is with you in your suffering. His sacrifice at Golgotha is a permanent reminder of this. Because suffering is of inestimable importance in God’s economy, we need to radically accept the experience and trust in God’s goodness and justice.

Do you want to avoid unhealthy relationships and pursue healthy ones? Because no one is perfect and everyone is on a journey to learn more about how to relate better to others, there is the potential for destructive behaviors and bad habits to develop in any relationship. So, let’s look at some characteristics of healthy and unhealthy relationships.

Trust vs. Mistrust | Trust is foundational in any successful relationship. People in healthy relationships are authentic and honest, and they share from the heart, allowing trust to grow even in the face of differing values and perspectives. Conversely, in unhealthy relationships, people do not trust each other and may even become jealous, sabotaging the relationship because they fear intimacy.

Effective Communication vs. Poor Communication | Communication is vital in every relationship. Healthy individuals communicate clearly and respectfully, showing assertiveness without aggression. They are aware of what they are saying and how they say it, all while practicing good listening skills and connecting emotionally. Unhealthy relationships have poor communication and often send demeaning messages in a hostile tone, resulting in verbally abusive relationships.

Mutual Respect vs. Control | People in healthy relationships respect each other’s thoughts, opinions, feelings, and preferences. This gives them the freedom to make their own decisions and express their individuality. On the other hand, toxic relationships display higher levels of manipulation and control, with people becoming abusive emotionally and physically.

Forgiveness vs. Holding Grudges | Forgiveness is essential in relationships and — we believe — the catalyst to restoring relationships. When mature people forgive, they are promising not to hold the offense against their friend or spouse. They practice daily forgiveness, recognizing that God commands us to forgive as shown in Ephesians 4:32. What we need to remember is that forgiveness does not mean we must become a doormat or that there are no consequences for people’s sins and offenses against others. You can still set boundaries in relationships with respect and understanding.

Unfortunately, this is not understood by people in toxic relationships. They hold grudges and resent each other, resulting in separation and emotional disconnection. It’s also detrimental to spiritual and mental health.

Agape Love vs. Conditional Love | Agape love is altruistic, selfless, and others-focused, therefore creating the environment for healthy relationships to thrive. It is not self-seeking (1 Corinthians 13:5), and it does not have an attitude of “it’s all about me.” Where agape love is present, there is a genuine desire to care for and nurture each other. Conversely, toxic relationships are conditional and send individualistic, selfish messages. The truth is that no one is perfect. Therefore, we all need to grow in agape love.

Remember, we were created for relationships, but because we live in a sinful and fallen world, many of them are unhealthy. Knowing the differences between what’s healthy and unhealthy can help you enrich your relationships, avoid toxicity, and reflect Christ every day. Look to His example and see how your relationships change for the better.

The new year is underway! One of the first things we usually do is reflect on the past year and decide what needs to be different in the new. Maybe you decided to lose those stubborn 10 pounds, quit smoking, limit social media, work on being more patient, etc. But change is not that easy, as I’m sure you’ve realized now that we’re a month into 2024.

Too often, we start the change process and quickly lose steam. Yuck, another failure. Then we think, “Why even bother? Why is this so hard?” Change might be desired, but readiness to change makes the difference. So, before we get any further into the year and you get frustrated and lose heart about your goals, like dieting for a healthier weight or limiting your screen time, ask two important questions.

How important is the change? Be honest. Are you doing this because someone else thinks you should or because you feel guilty? To assess the importance of a change, rate it on a scale from 1 to 10, with 1 being not important at all and 10 being the most important. If your rating is low (below a 5), you aren’t ready. Lack of importance means change is a low priority. It’s a setup for failure. For example, I asked a patient if he wanted to lose weight. He said, “Not really, but my wife wants me to.” The more we talked, the more he told me that weight loss was not an important issue for him. He wasn’t ready to give up comfort food with all the stress he was experiencing. He rated the importance as a 3.

How confident are you to make a change? The importance of a change may be high, but if you lack the confidence to make the change, it’s a setup for failure too. To assess your confidence, use that same 1 to 10 scale. If your confidence number is low, change will be hard to make. Let’s use our patient example again. Patient #2 tells me losing weight is a 9 out of 10 on the importance scale. He really wants to drop those pounds because he knows it is negatively affecting his health. But he rated his confidence in losing weight as a 3 out of 10. His reason for low confidence was due to his previous failed efforts to lose weight. He needed a plan for success that would help him to not fail again, and that plan included identifying all the barriers and challenges to weight loss.

Whatever it is that you want to change, it needs to be important, and you need to feel confident to make it happen. Otherwise, you probably aren’t ready to make a change. One way to increase your readiness is to make a list of the pros and cons of making a change. The pros should outweigh the cons, and the cons need to be considered as they relate to your confidence.

And remember, pray and ask God to help you make this change and stick with it. You have the power of the Holy Spirit in you to help with confidence. God in us is a powerful change agent. If change is important, don’t get discouraged or give up. If confidence is your issue, enlist the power of the Holy Spirit along with a good plan to overcome the barriers to change. And remember, most people don’t change in a straight line, meaning there will be ups and downs related to that change. The key is to not give up. Identify what got in your way of success and try again.

When I was a little girl, I knew that God had gifted me athletically because I loved sports and was pretty good at them. But there was one problem: society did not allow young girls to play any organized sports. In my prayers, I asked the Lord why He gave me this talent without any opportunity, but those were the words of a child who didn’t know what the future would hold. We don’t know God’s plans for our lives, but we do know He is holy, faithful, trustworthy, and delivers on His promises like Scripture says in Jeremiah 29:11: “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

Then, a coach asked me to play on his Little League baseball team disguised as a boy. I thanked him but said, “No, thank you. I just don’t feel it’s right to hide who I am.” Thirty minutes later, another coach saw me playing baseball catch and asked me to play on her women’s fastpitch softball team, the Union Park Jets. Even though I was only 10 years old, and the average age of the players was 22, my parents said I could play. The rest is history — I went from the Union Park Jets to the Orlando Rebels, UCLA Bruins, Raybestos Brakettes, California Commotion, numerous USA National teams, played in five Pan American Games, five World Championships, and won two Olympic Gold medals.

The day I discovered fastpitch softball was the moment I learned God hears our prayers and that His plans for us exceed what we can imagine (Ephesians 3:20). We do not have to hide who we are or the gifts God has given us. They are meant to be shared in God’s timing and for His glory.

After the 2000 Olympics, I got married, started a medical practice as an orthopedic surgeon, and then became executive director of a 300-acre sports, health, and education campus. I thought I would retire from this position, but sometimes, God has greater plans.

One day, I was approached to run for city mayor and county commissioner, so I turned to the Lord in prayer, asking Him to make it clear where He wanted me to serve Him — and answer He did. When I received a phone call from the Liberty University athletic director asking me to be the next head softball coach, I told him I had never been a college head coach before. He responded, “We realize that, but we feel the Lord is leading us to you.” My husband and I flew to Lynchburg and quickly felt at peace during the visit. I accepted the job knowing the Lord was in control.

There is no doubt that God is moving at Liberty University and in the athletics department. We have competed in two Regional Finals — just three wins away from the Women’s College World Series — and God continues to shower His blessings upon us, but our true success is our commitment to the Lord.

Whatever your career or interests, remember that you honor Him when you put your gifts into action. Trust in His plans for you and seek His will each step of the way. You will be amazed at what God can do.
