To The Rescue

I was on my way back to the office last week after a few meetings, when our station vehicle started pulling pretty hard to one side.  I am by no means an auto mechanic, but I quickly realized that something wasn’t quite right.  I pulled off to the side of the highway to find a flat tire in need of repair.  It wasn’t how I had planned to spend part of my afternoon but wasn’t the end of the world either.  I had just started to jack the vehicle up when a member of the Iowa State Patrol came to the rescue.  This is one of the few times you actually want to see the flashing red and blue lights behind you!  Officer Waterman (who I found out later is an avid Life 101.9 listener) had much better tools than I did to get our van up in the air, remove the flat tire and get the spare in place and ready to go.  Working as a team, we had the job done in no time and I was back on the road.

Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”  I love thinking about the implications of this verse. The God of the universe, who could do anything and everything he wants to do without help from anyone, chooses to use us to show His love in this way!  Officer Waterman took a frustrating moment in my life and turned it around with the encouragement of having someone to help me change my flat tire.  In the same way, God has put opportunities for you and me to come to the rescue of someone else today.  Maybe it’s a kind word to a co-worker who is going through a difficult family situation.  Perhaps you could offer an evening of free babysitting to your single parent friend who just needs some time to breathe.  Or maybe you’ll see a Station Manager at the side of the road with a flat tire.  Help him out, won’t you?!?

What a privilege we have to be the hands and feet of Jesus to the people around us.  Let’s look for those opportunities today.

Wise, Weird & Welcome: Learning and Leading with the Lepers and the Locust Eaters

We’ve all read the same books about teamwork, leadership, communication, and culture that everybody reads. We’ve mastered Maxwell, studied Sanborn, Sinek, and Sun Tzu, and liberally cribbed Collins in aborted attempts to go from good to great, but…

How’s that working out for you?

What if you left St. Louis with an entirely new lens through which to view and act upon improvements in:

Let’s examine how this all connects together, but approach it from an entirely different angle. Don’t just think outside the box. Kick the box to the curb and start at zero.
