Tell us about your station:

Our license is owned by Taylor University and we operate with a professional staff. Our terrestrial signal range through transmitters and translators covers northeast Indiana, northwest and west central Ohio and south central Michigan.

We have a wonderful ministry team, loving listeners and we are celebrating our 40th anniversary year.

Your station’s most successful promotion:

Two very different promotions were extremely successful so I’ll highlight both.

“Beef Up The Holidays” Last Christmas (and we’re doing it again this year) we gave away a quarter beef for the freezer to eight different families. We had thousands of online entries within two weeks. More importantly, most of the winners either really needed the help or blessed others who did with their prize.

“40 Hours For 40 Years Birthday Party” Back in January starting on our actual 40th birthday, we broadcast live for 40 hours straight with special guests, audio archives, music archives and nice prizes for listeners every hour, even overnight. We gave away over $3000 in prizes, listeners set their alarms and called in every hour and they were talking about how they enjoyed it for months afterward. The staff had a blast as well.

Resources your station uses:

I probably don’t have a bunch of information here that others aren’t already aware of.
We drink alot of consultant Brian Wright’s Kool Aid.
For show prep, we use various websites and online tools including;InterPrep.com, Christian Radio Show Prep Services, On-Air Prep, Radio Online and the Associated Press.
Life is a resource, our listeners are a resource and our staff is extremely resourceful.

One bit of wisdom to share with others:

My personal prayer for a long time has been, “Lord, put me where you can use me the most.” When I’ve let Him do that, I’ve never been more fulfilled and have never had so much fun! 🙂

Share an impactful listener story:

This is from Linda.

“I suffer from extreme depression and sometimes I go so far deep into myself that I can’t get out and I can’t reach out. WBCL helps pull me back out into life again. Without WBCL, I think there’s a few times in my life when I don’t think I would’ve gone on.”

This is why we get up and go to work.

Tell us why you’re a member of CMB:

When I attend a summit or Momentum, I am always deeply encouraged by the overall attitude of fellowship and desire to help each other. I love the emphasis on utilizing the tools of our trade and improving in all areas so we can ultimately reach more for Christ. It’s also faith-bolstering to meet others who totally understand and travel the same occupational hills and valleys and who are willing to share their experiences.

Wise, Weird & Welcome: Learning and Leading with the Lepers and the Locust Eaters

We’ve all read the same books about teamwork, leadership, communication, and culture that everybody reads. We’ve mastered Maxwell, studied Sanborn, Sinek, and Sun Tzu, and liberally cribbed Collins in aborted attempts to go from good to great, but…

How’s that working out for you?

What if you left St. Louis with an entirely new lens through which to view and act upon improvements in:

Let’s examine how this all connects together, but approach it from an entirely different angle. Don’t just think outside the box. Kick the box to the curb and start at zero.
