Tell us about your station:

SPIRIT 1053 serves Seattle and the Puget Sound every day with hope and encouragement! In a radio landscape of nearly 50 signals, SPIRIT 1053 consistently ranks in the Top 5 in our key listener demographic, W25-54. We’re grateful to God for this, since Seattle is recognized as one of the least-churched cities in the nation. Our commitment is to share the life-changing hope of Jesus through daily encouragement and by making a positive impact in the communities we serve.

Our on-air team has a heart for connecting with our listeners in a real way – being honest about life’s daily ups and downs, and encouraging one another through them.

Your station’s most successful promotion:

A recent successful promotion is the SPIRIT of Giving on SPIRIT 1053… we invited listeners to register to win $500 for themselves, and $500 to give away to a family member, friend, church, etc.. SPIRIT of Giving included an extensive marketing campaign both on air and digitally to get people involved. The opportunity to empower listeners to bless others in need created lots of incredible on-air moments, and accomplished our internal goals, too!

Resources your station uses:

Consultants: yes we use them.
Show Prep: We don’t really use any prep services. Our air talent are great at turning their own lives and observations into compelling radio.

One bit of wisdom to share with others:

The biggest thing I think is missing in our industry right now is visionary leadership. In the future, only the stations that are able to create adjacent possibilities beyond the barriers they face will thrive… dream bigger than you’ve dreamed before, and then figure out one action step you can take today that will bring this dream to reality.

Share an impactful listener story:

There’s a ton! Here’s a recent one:

“Spirit 105.3 has been such a blessing in my life. Two years ago I faced several serious major surgeries, from which I have recovered. The music and encouraging words lifted my spirit just when I needed it most. Now, my husband has been diagnosed with a very rare disease for which he is receiving treatment. God is by our side through it all and, again, the music and the wonderful people you have there remind us daily about Gods faithfulness and the hope we have in Him. Thank you for being there.”

Tell us why you’re a member of CMB:

CMB has given us a great platform to stay connected to the industry, to network with other pros, to learn how to do ministry better, and to share our experiences and our mistakes with other broadcasters to hopefully make our industry better!

Wise, Weird & Welcome: Learning and Leading with the Lepers and the Locust Eaters

We’ve all read the same books about teamwork, leadership, communication, and culture that everybody reads. We’ve mastered Maxwell, studied Sanborn, Sinek, and Sun Tzu, and liberally cribbed Collins in aborted attempts to go from good to great, but…

How’s that working out for you?

What if you left St. Louis with an entirely new lens through which to view and act upon improvements in:

Let’s examine how this all connects together, but approach it from an entirely different angle. Don’t just think outside the box. Kick the box to the curb and start at zero.
