Tell us about your station:

The Promise FM is a Christ-centered media ministry through which God is changing lives, strengthening families, and impacting communities for Christ in Northern Michigan, Ontario, and around the world. We’re a music-based ministry, offering a selection of teaching programs and featurettes, as well as real, relateable personalities, living life with our listeners every day.

Your station’s most successful promotion:

That’s really still to be determined! Our ministry has undergone a season of growth and building, and we have really seen that God is on the move with our listeners through The Promise FM! We have some really wonderful plans, and we’re making preparations as God makes the way! In the near future, we anticipate some fun, daily givebacks and listener interaction, as well as some quarterly promotions that allow us to work with sponsors to provide some bigger prizes, plus some service-based promotions, that will benefit partner organizations in ministry, including but not limited to Compassion International and Samaritan’s Purse/Operation Christmas Child.

Resources your station uses:

We currently consult with Mike Sommers.

The lions’ share of show prep our airstaff utilizes is really just living real life together with our listeners. Other sources can always be Facebook, Christian Radio Show Prep Services, The Good News at Huffington Post, Christian Music Broadcasters and other fellow Christian radio ministries, etc. The best prep is real life, and sharing with our listeners deepens our connection as friends.

We utilize Raiser’s Edge to organize and maintain communication with our donors and business underwriters.

One bit of wisdom to share with others:

A good friend and fellow Christian broadcaster shared with me one day, “There’s God’s wisdom, and there’s man’s wisdom.” Our choice is to go after what we believe to be God’s wisdom and direction for the ministry, which sometimes seems counter-intuitive to “typical” radio practices, yet we’ve seen over and over how when we follow after God’s ways, He takes care of the rest, and the response from our listeners has been truly overwhelming. God really is on the move in Northern Michigan and Ontario, and we’re blessed to be part of His kingdom work at The Promise FM!

Share an impactful listener story:

We were recently part of a local Christian Music Festival, and a sweet lady came up to our tent, looking for our morning show host, Fred. She was going through a very tough season, and at the time was living in a shelter for victims of abuse. She was adamant that she needed to give Fred a hug, because she got great encouragement from the morning show, and she asked Fred to pray with her that she would get a place to live. The Spirit truly moved in that moment, and Fred was led to tell her that she WOULD have a place, and soon. Just a few short weeks later, while doing our “Fair Tour” in Alpena County, the same listener came up to Fred and Jenny on-location and said that she had made the trip for the specific purpose of getting another hug, and sharing the mailing address at her new apartment! She praised God for His provision on the radio, and it was just fantastic, the way she loved on her radio station!

Tell us why you’re a member of CMB:

As a Gold Member of CMB, the networking opportunities through CMB have proven invaluable time and again. We frequent multiple forums, where every day ideas are shared, questions are asked and answered, and members just generally keep one another inspired to continue to be the voice of light in their communities.

Wise, Weird & Welcome: Learning and Leading with the Lepers and the Locust Eaters

We’ve all read the same books about teamwork, leadership, communication, and culture that everybody reads. We’ve mastered Maxwell, studied Sanborn, Sinek, and Sun Tzu, and liberally cribbed Collins in aborted attempts to go from good to great, but…

How’s that working out for you?

What if you left St. Louis with an entirely new lens through which to view and act upon improvements in:

Let’s examine how this all connects together, but approach it from an entirely different angle. Don’t just think outside the box. Kick the box to the curb and start at zero.
