Positive Alternative Radio Raises $167K for West Virginia Disaster Relief

BLACKSBURG, VA, July 1, 2016 –Positive Alternative Radio (PAR), in partnership with God’s Pit Crew, has raised $167,000 in its effort to deliver hope and relief supplies to West Virginia flood victims. The two-day radio campaign was supported by PAR’s five stations, which include: Joy FM (Winston-Salem, NC), Spirit FM (Lynchburg, VA), Walk FM (Ashland, KY), WCQR (Gray, VA), and Positive Hits PER (Fredericksburg, VA).

“Positive Alternative Radio is humbled by the outpouring of support for our West Virginia neighbors,” says Derek Withrow, director of PAR Impact. “It is in times like these that we must lean on one another and lend a helping hand—the unbridled generosity of PAR listeners is simply amazing.”

All money raised will be given to God’s Pit Crew (GPC), a Virginia-based crisis response organization and PAR Community Impact Partner. God’s Pit Crew uses monetary and donated resources to construct Blessing Buckets. Each bucket contains personal hygiene items, canned food, cleaning supplies, water, a flash light, batteries, and a Christian Bible. As a result of the community’s response to PAR’s campaign, more than 4,771 buckets are ready to be added to the relief effort.

“Last night we found a family with nine kids sleeping in their van,” says Randy Johnson, founder and executive director of God’s Pit Crew. They were barely clothed, muddy, hungry, and scared. Per capita, this is the worst I’ve seen since Hurricane Katrina.”

PAR stations will continue to direct donations to God’s Pit Crew over the coming weeks and months. Individuals wishing to donate to the relief effort can do so by visiting godspitcrew.org or by calling 866-778-2955.

Positive Alternative Radio owns and operates stations in Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Ohio. The stations provide adult contemporary and gospel music, as well as Christian content available across a variety of digital platforms.   In providing services to fellow Christian broadcasters and a weekly blog, “Dear Christian Radio,” PAR is dedicated to helping Christian communication ministries strive for excellence.
