365…that is how many days God graciously gave us in 2019. If I’m being honest, 2019 was a challenging year for me. Actually, it was THE most challenging year. I could be dramatic and add “EVER” at that end of that sentence, but I will refrain. I really want to include the scripture about the Lord restoring the years that the locust ate, but that would be over the top.
After CMB made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel Momentum, I asked God if He would reveal why He allowed Hurricane Dorian to happen. God does not owe us an explanation for anything, and I know that everything happens for a reason. My team has their own incredible stories, but I thought I would share mine with you.
On Thursday, September 5, instead of us enjoying day 2 of Momentum, my 16-year-old daughter woke up with Chicken Pox. Chicken Pox? Yes, Chicken Pox!!! Her sweet face looked miserable, brimming with poxes. As we were leaving the doctor, who treated us as if a Hazmat suit might become a necessary trend, it hit me. If Momentum had happened, things would look completely different. How would I juggle taking care of my daughter while tackling my Momentum responsibilities? How many people would have been infected? Would we have been stuck in Orlando until her incubation period passed or would we have driven the 938 miles home? With tears running down my face, I thanked God for His sovereignty and grace.
This is just another reminder that God knows what is best.
We all face challenges that are beyond our control. It’s best to remember…“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you.’” (Is 41:13)
We’re coming upon 2020 with another 365 days. New challenges are sure to come. May God give us the strength we need to face them. And may He gently remind us that He knows what is best.
