Each week the idea ninjas at Creative Cardio post a series of idea starters here so you can shape your showprep!
Listeners carry around amazing stories and you have the proveledge of framing those stories in your show. Your stories plant seeds and encourage everyday. Think about how you can shift around the way you do storytelling. When you tell a positive news story, think about full circle moments. Start with a headline. Think about the conflict between the characters. Think about leaders who had a big hairy idea. Think about the forgotten people who rose to the occasion to love others in-spite of their own lack of resources. Talk about heart over ability. Here’s a story about how the principal at a South Dallas middle school asked 50-100 men to step up to mentor under resourced students. Over 600 men responded to a school that was once ranked last in the district!
“Studies show that those who do not forgive are more likely to experience high blood pressure, bouts of depression, and problems with anger, stress, and anxiety. If you are willing to exert the effort it takes to be forgiving, there are benefits both emotionally and physically.” -Greg Laurie
Life Time Fitness is a company that operates gyms across the country. The company has banned cable news from the TVs in the fitness center because the “consistently negative or politically charged content doesn’t mesh with the company’s healthy way of life philosophy.” There’s some other gym chains who have done the same!
Have you noticed the way watching politically charged news affects your morning? Have you noticed how news affects your worldview or hope for our world? What changes have you made to protect what goes into your head so you can have a refreshed hope in humanity?
Lake Superior State University released its annual “List of Words Banished from the Queen’s English for Misuse, Overuse and General Uselessness.” Here’s the story:
Do you have a banned phrase at your home or work? At my office, no ever is allowed to say “if we don’t hit ‘100% of our goal then…” It’s very frowned upon to even utter such a sentence!
It’s always fun to record kids sharing their perspective on the world. Just ask them questions about what they want to accomplish in this new year. Ask them what they want to change about their school. Ask them how they want God to intervene in their family or in their math struggles. Record kids with your iphone voice memo and use them on the air. Here’s some kids talking about what they want to do different in the new year. DRY CALLS you can use to spark a discussion!
If you were guaranteed one resolution that would not fail what would it be? Here’s some DRY CALLS to start the discussion on the air or in your trax!
What scripture was your go to in 2017? The world’s favorite Bible verse was the ancient words of Joshua in 2017. You Version says this was the most searched line from the Bible this year.
“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:19
What’s the Bible verse you have hanging on your wall at home? What’s the verse God used to encoruge you consistently this past year?
If you could make a resolution for someone else what would it be? What’s the resolution you actually made vs what you should have made? What’s one resolution you actually mastered?
I gotta admit. 2018 has been a letdown so far! This is the future. Aren’t we supposed to have flying cars by now? I had high expectations for this century that have not come to pass…yet!
The hover board from back to the future, teleportation, vacation to Mars, The Jetsons, Futurama, the Hal 5000, the instant gratification drone food delivery! What gives?? Is 2018 feel like what you thought it would be as a kid?
Describe your 2017 using only a sound! Describe your 2017 using only a smell! Describe your 2017 using only a verb!
Yes it’s time to start our taxes. Strange but real tax laws from all 50 states. What’s the strangest thing you ever claimed on your taxes as a deduction? What’s the biggest surprise you found while going through receipts prepping your taxes?
