This is it, right?
The completion of the Christmas story.
The heart of your mission, your calling.
It’s the fulfillment of God’s plan.
It separated time.
It ushered in the New Covenant.
This is the SuperBowl for CCM.
EASTER
So in a world that’s all about colored eggs and scary looking bunnies, a world that doesn’t even rank Easter attendance at church with Christmas anymore, we wanted to know, “How could we not only share the story but equip others to do the same?”
Prior to this, we had included a dramatized Easter story broken down into short perspectives of those who experienced it. We played those around select songs. But we knew there had to be more.
As we researched, we were connected with local Pastor Randy Frazee. In 2019, he and his wife had been a part of bringing over 300 churches together in Hong Kong for a common experience called One during the 40 days of Lent. It’s goal is to unite people around the world as one around the word of God. It has since become an annual event in Hong Kong and expanded to Ghana, Singapore and South Korea.
The question quickly became, what if we brought One to America?
So, in 2021, KC became the first US city to host a One Easter event! And we are set and eager to see its growth in 2022.
OneKC is a 7 week series that focuses on 4 main areas:
- Shared Sunday messages at all participating churches (its first year in KC there were over 130 churches representing several different languages that participated). All the materials and curriculum are provided to churches. This year, each Sunday message will each focus on a different one of the seven “I am” statements of Jesus.
- Small groups will participate by watching deeper content to study at home.
- Individuals spend 10 minutes per day listening to a plan on either the YouVersion app (in the US) or Bible.is app (internationally). When completed at the end of the 40 days, the plan will have taken listeners through all 4 gospels.
- Participants then have a chance to impact the global message of Christ by supporting Bible translation.
As a radio station, we became the mouth piece for churches all across the metro to unite them and help them share their message. On air and through social and our website, we invite churches to participate leading up to Lent. During the 40 days, we have messaging encouraging and connecting people with the listening plans. Each week we interview a different area pastor representing a participating church. They touch on what will be happening at OneKC churches that coming Sunday. Basically, a mini message on each of the seven “I Am” statements.
On Easter Sunday we still schedule songs and run the dramatization, but engaging with the Easter message through all 40 days of Lent and watching the Church come together in KC, has produced fruit beyond our imagining.
