What led you to a career in the radio industry?
I’ve been a Christian since I was 7. I got into broadcasting when I was 17 on a fluke…kind of a dare. I had no idea at the time that Christian radio existed. After college, I went to an interview at Hot 105 and on the way in saw a sign for “The Light”. I got the job and then asked about the other station…within 2 weeks, I was doing afternoon drive and was MD/APD on the Christian station.
What advice would you give people new to the business?
Learn everything. Every aspect of the industry. Don’t be cocky. Have a servant attitude. Focus every day on how to get the attention of 1 more listener.
Give a shoutout to someone who is making a difference in radio and what are they doing to make an impact?
Troy West from KSBJ. That guy knows what’s goin’ on. He has such a natural, God-given talent, and also works consistently to develop his skills, and strives to reach as many people as possible with the message of Jesus.
Tell us about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career.
Helping to start Way FM in West Palm Beach Florida. I was in my early 20’s, met some amazing people like Bill Scott, Dusty Rhodes, and Bob Augsburg, who all taught me so much about the industry and they had such an impact in my career and my life.
Tell us about a story of a Christian song that made a difference in your life or the life of a listener.
Chris Tomlin-How Great is our God. Hands down the best song ever. If you can’t worship during that song…I don’t know what to tell you. It has made such a huge impact in my life, the lives of my children, and so many countless listeners who have called telling me just what it means to them.
