Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and passionate Broadcast Engineer to join our team in Blacksburg, VA. This position will support our AM and FM stations across North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee, ensuring that our broadcasts maintain excellent quality and technical reliability. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, a commitment to excellence, and a heart aligned with our mission.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and troubleshoot all broadcast equipment, transmitters, and studio systems to ensure optimal performance and regulatory compliance.
Perform regular maintenance, repairs, and inspections of AM and FM transmitters, audio processing equipment, automation systems, and IP-based broadcast systems.
Work closely with programming and operations teams to address technical issues quickly and effectively.
Install and upgrade broadcast systems as needed to support new technologies and station growth.
Monitor and manage signal quality across all stations, conducting field tests and resolving coverage issues.
Keep accurate logs and documentation of equipment maintenance, technical incidents, and FCC compliance activities.
Qualifications:
Proven experience as a broadcast engineer, ideally within radio broadcasting.
Knowledge of AM and FM transmission systems, RF fundamentals, audio processing, and IP-based broadcast technologies.
Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing broadcast equipment, both in the studio and at transmitter sites.
Familiarity with FCC regulations and compliance standards.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work well with technical and non-technical colleagues.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional nights and weekends, to address urgent technical issues.
Preferred:
SBE (Society of Broadcast Engineers) certification or other relevant technical certifications.
