What is your life verse and why?
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” —Philippians 4:6-7
I struggle with worry and doubt in areas of my life, including helping to run a radio ministry. When I question if I’m doing “good enough” that’s where the enemy likes to sneak in and discourage me. I pray against negative thoughts and feelings often, to continue to be strong in battle. God has never let me down, even in the deep valleys.
Have you ever had a side hustle or considered having one?
I am the master of the side hustle! I have had my own mobile DJ business for 25 years, got my real estate license 3 years ago, and have been the music man and announcer for some 20 odd years for our University of North Dakota Athletics for all sports. I sock it into the vacation fund!
What’s your favorite part of the workday?
I love interacting with all the people in our radio family when they call in during the morning show and at events! I love how much of a family that it is, and understanding how I can encourage and serve them better!
What’s the most unusual place you’ve fallen asleep?
I do the morning show with my wife. After the show I go “work” in Studio B (office supply closet with a computer and microphone) scheduling music and things. She has heard me snoring in there a few times.
What was it like growing up as the youngest/oldest/middle/only child?
I’m an only child and adopted. I never had anyone to blame when something got broken! I had to learn how to create my own fun, and participated in many individual sports and developed a love for listening to and playing music on guitar. We did have an excellent neighborhood, and my mom loved making our place the “Kool-Aid House” where all the kids hung out!
What TV family most reminds you of your own?
I’ll say Duck Dynasty. My grandma was a perfect Miss Kay who kept everyone in line, and I grew up in the woods hunting and fishing. I even had the crazy uncle who would noodle for catfish and catch huge snapping turtles. When all the crazy simmers down, the focus is on Jesus and family.
Is there any product that you couldn’t live without?
I’m hooked on Samsung phones, comfy Skechers shoes, and Dunkin’ coffee!
Who do you admire most in the world?
I admire people who are loving, daring, and not afraid to take a chance on doing something even if it fails. Sounds like a perfect description of my wife Yvonne! Also my dear friend Pastor Paul Knight who spent years investing into my life before and after I gave my life to Jesus..
Which of your personality traits are you most proud of?
I have always had the ability to help bring people together, and enjoy helping connect dots. I also am pretty mellow and don’t get too worked up about things.
What’s on your bucket list?
I’d love to take a motorhome pulling a trailer full of motorcycles and travel the country hitting all of Guy’s DDD locations! Spending some time on a tropical island would also be amazing!
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I’d love to be back in the hills on a lake near a golf course with a Chick-fil-A and Dunkin’ down the street!
