What is your life verse and why?
Hebrews 11:1 “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not yet seen.”
This verse was given to me by a pastor shortly before my baptism. This verse has carried me through some dark valleys but also has kept me humble before getting too cocky. It has helped me make sense of some of the trials I and my wife have faced, and has been our victory cheer for moments of celebration. Fun fact: It’s also the only thing I’ve thought about tattooing on myself…I’ve always wanted a tattoo.
What’s your most prized possession and why?
My little lockbox…ok that requires an explanation. It actually has a bunch of really random items in it (class ring, first driver’s license, little funeral reminder cards of close family) but chief among them…every note my wife wrote me in High School. I saved them. Even though we broke up and didn’t talk for 6 years after I graduated. I just had a feeling they might be important again…
What are you most proud of in the last year?
Achieving a career goal I wasn’t sure would happen. A programming director position in Christian Radio. I had a couple of false starts over the decade I’ve been in radio…near misses? We’ll call them “so close”-es when it comes to getting into the genre. And then I was laid off at the start of the 2020 pandemic and watched radio crumble a bit that I seriously thought my radio career might have been over. God clearly had other plans and I am so proud to be part of Moody Radio, a school I thought I’d go to but was unable to attend, and sharing the gospel through music and engaging listeners across the nation and around the world through our digital stations. Next level stuff! NEVER dreamed I could be a part of something like it…and all for Christ dudes!!!
Do you sleep with a top sheet? Why or why not?
Of course…I’m not an animal! (Although upon reflection this habit started once I got married…so this may be a learned trait)
If you could have any zoo animal as a pet, which would it be?
Probably a wombat. Three reasons: Australia is the best country animal wise. Wombats are hilariously adorable. They’re marsupials and keeping kangaroos is sketchy.
What would be the first thing you’d do if you won the lottery?
Buy a controlling share of the Walt Disney Company or Comcast…mostly so I can get that sweet “majority shareholder” cred and go to their theme parks whenever…I love theme parks. A lot.
Do you hit the snooze button or wake up immediately?
Is this a safe space? Can I confess something? In the past I used to. Now I know we all technically “work for Jesus” as we’re always supposed to be working “as unto the LORD” no matter what we’re doing. Now that I’m in Christian radio I feel like I LEGIT work FOR Jesus…and that fact gets me so amped in the morning to get out of bed…about 10 minutes later though I need coffee. So, I open my Dunkin’ app and place an order.
How would your 10-year-old self react to what you do now?
He’d call me a sell-out. Because 10-year old me wanted to own theme parks. I love theme parks. Always have. Always will.
What was the best vacation you ever took and why?
Our Honeymoon. So check this: A 4-day Disney Cruise on the Disney Wonder, 4-days at Walt Disney World, and a bonus day at Universal Studios. Not sure if I mentioned it or not…I love theme parks.
How old were you when you started working?
17. I was an Ice Rink attendant for the Elgin, Illinois Parks and Recreation Department. I rented skates to people and told adults not to walk on the ice without skates. I was successful at only half of that.
What’s the worst job you’ve ever had?
I worked at a pet store for exactly 3 weeks. I thought it’d be just playing with puppies, kittens, and the occasional snake or bird all day. Turns out, it was 80% cleaning, 10% feeding, 7% sales, 2% not playing with the animals, 1% playing with the animals when the supervisors back was turned.
