WBGL’s Run for Hope Virtual 5K

CHAMPAIGN, IL – On Saturday, August 29th, WBGL hosted its first ever virtual 5K, called Run for Hope. The run benefitted Convoy of Hope and its Beyond 10 Million Meals program, which helps to provide basic food and hygiene items to families across the country who have been affected by COVID-19. Over 620 people signed up to participate, and to date, we have raised over $6,200 for Convoy of Hope.

WBGL asked participants to post pictures and videos on social media the morning of the virtual run so everyone could feel connected, even though we were physically separated, and the response from participants was fantastic! Johnathon and Lindsey, from WBGL’s Morning Show created a special podcast for the event, and participants were invited to listen as they walked and ran.

Team member, Mary said, “Running with a purpose is so rewarding. Thank you for allowing me to be a part!” Tonya said it was “such a blessing to be involved in spreading the love and hope of Jesus!” Community Engagement Manager, Sarah Yeackley shared, “We felt this was a big win for our listeners and look forward to incorporating more digital aspects in future events!” Participant ages ranged from children all the way up to grandparents, with 7 different states represented!
