On April 23 and 30, Life 102.5’s Summer Shepherd is sitting down with Amanda J. Rivers, sexual assault survivor, to discuss how to support other survivors. Shepherd’s podcast is called “No Seriously, How Do I Do This?” Every episode is full of laughter and good conversation about those aspects of parenting that can be hard to talk about.
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and for the next two episodes of her podcast, Shepherd and Rivers will be sharing their stories and encouraging listeners to stand together in support of their family and friends who are survivors, with a few practical tips on how to love them well.
Shepherd says, “My heart is always to connect our audience with the truth that they are not alone in their parenting journey and to ‘go there’ on tough topics. I believe this may be the most important topic we have discussed to date on “No Seriously,” and I pray it allows us to take a step towards healing a huge source of brokenness in our world.”
The first episode will be released on April 23 and it features Rivers’ story, along with hope for other survivors. The second episode will be released on April 30 and it will include discussion of the Supporter’s role and tips about what and what not say, how to come back and make things right if you responded poorly initially, and how to prepare yourself as a supporter before news of assault ever comes.
Rivers has authored the book “How to Respond When Someone Tells You about Sexual Assault”; she is also an officer in the United States Space Force, certified life coach, public speaker, and seasoned educator on topics of sexual assault, depression and suicide.
