KSWP/KAVX is excited to announce that the NWS is recognizing the stations as a Weather-Ready Nation (WRN) Ambassador of Excellence for 2021. KSWP/KAVX is 1 of 56 organizations being recognized nationally this year by serving as change agents and leaders in their communities.
KSWP/KAVX created the Church and Community Emergency Response Team (CCERT) back in May to help the community and surrounding churches coordinate efforts in times of disaster in our area.
As a voice for a large and diverse group of people in our area KSWP/KAVX wants to make sure they can provide the most accurate news and information possible. The community needs to know how, where and when they can receive help and resources before, during and after a storm or crisis.
In order to carry out the mission they began connecting with area church leaders and with the NWS in Shreveport, LA and invited them to present at their Church and Community Emergency Response Team (CCERT) meeting. This partnership has not just benefited the Lufkin area, but all of the listening area for the radio station in Deep East Texas, helping educate them on weather hazards, their impacts, and actions that can be taken to help mitigate disasters.
