Arizona Shine radio has a new home on the dial in central and northern Arizona—103.9 FM and 1450 AM in the Greater Prescott area; 99.3 FM in Flagstaff.
The faith-based station was presented with the National Religious Broadcasters 2015 Station of the Year award for exceptional engagement of the listening family toward community outreach efforts. When Arizona Christian University, who owned Arizona Shine, sold the original station signal in July 2015, community supporters stepped up determined to keep Arizona Shine alive. “They were not going to let it go,” said Station Manager Sally Barton. “Arizona Shine is shining again and it’s totally due to them. We will continue to be an active, integral part of this community. We’re here because of them, and for them.”
Roger and Nancy Anderson, owners of Northern Arizona-based Great Circle Media, agreed to give the station the three signals that Arizona Shine is heard on now, and named Daniel White General Manager. Arizona’s local contemporary Christian radio station returns with familiar friends: Dave Schreiber, Morning Host; Amy Campos, Mid-Day Host; Fred Young, Afternoon Host, and Sally and Roger Barton returning as hosts of Portraits—Snapshots of Life, Hope and Faith.
Arizona Shine is a community-supported radio station, dependent on and grateful for independent donors and support from the business community. According to Barton, “We are continually expanding our community outreach, made possible through supporters who recognize and promote the mission of the station, as we bring the music that people love and encouragement that brightens the day.”
With a tangible commitment to be active in the community, Arizona Shine, in January 2015, drew listeners to outreach toward Community Pregnancy Centers across Arizona. More than 4,000 diapers and 10,000 baby items, including blankets and clothes, strollers, car seats, beds and furnishings were provided to young families served by the centers.
Offering simple acts of love in February through Valentine’s Day Drive-Thru Difference, listeners picked up the tab for the car behind them in the Drive-Thru, and picked up two flowers at Arizona Shine—one for them and one to bless a friend. In alliance with Compassion International more than 100 children were sponsored in the month of August during a two-and-a-half-day on-air campaign by Arizona Shine. Through the sponsorship the children receive clean drinking water, food and education.
Throughout the month of December, Arizona Shine’s listening family offered “The Gift of Warmth” as the station teamed up with Great Circle Media to provide 4,000 warm coats and jackets to local communities for those in need.
