On May 27th 2021, KSWP/KAVX Christian Radio Station held a meeting in regards to an Emergency Response team, also known as CCERT. The primary purpose of the team is to gather reliable information during a crisis and channel it to KSWP/KAVX where it can be broadcast on the air and on social media channels.
Al Ross, President of KSWP/KAVX, said “We have experienced a wide range of extreme weather in our area. From tornados, the recent ice storms and now into Hurricane season, we know that life-saving communication is vital. Now that our radio stations have backup generators, we are in a place where we can be on the air and be that hub of communication no matter what happens.”
At the meeting, leaders discussed ways to work together and how to best communicate before, during and after a major event. Ross added “We would rather not have any storms at all, but if we do, we want to be prepared. East Texas is the most generous and loving people around. We believe this team will be a great way for people to know where they can respond and help others after an event.’
For those who missed the initial meeting, a second informational meeting is being planned for July in Nacogdoches.
