KSWP/KAVX partnered with the Local Buckner Children and Family Services Center of Buckner International for a shoe drive. 809 pairs of shoes were collected! The goal of the drive was to make sure as many kids as possible receive a new pair of shoes before school easing the burden parent’s faces this time of year. Holly Valentine, Family Pathways Program Director reports, “This year we ended the drive with 809 pairs of shoes. It’s a true testament to the giving spirit in Angelina County and how the community rallies together to provide hope to families through the gift of shoes.”
KSWP/KAVX also partnered with Greater East Texas Community Action in Nacogdoches County, Nacogdoches Country Schools and the Nacogdoches Junior Forum for their annual School Supply drive called Operation Supply our Schools. This year’s drive brought in almost $20,000 in cash donations and covered supplies for up to 8 school districts. Executive Director for Greater East Texas Community Action, Karen Swenson, commented, “It’s heartwarming to see how the community comes together for our kids in Nacogdoches County.”
With price increases and supply shortages, the list of families in need was longer than it has been in previous years. KSWP/KAVX General Manager Michelle Ross, stated, “As a radio ministry we believe it’s our job to support families and great organizations like these in every way possible. We are privileged to be a mouthpiece for these drives every year and support our community.”
