Dallas Fort Worth, TX, April 4, 2022 – 90.9 KCBI’s Sonny Delfyette (Afternoons with Sonny) and Digital Content Director Emily Haring have produced a mini-documentary of Sonny’s visit to church shelters along the Polish border, where refugees fleeing war-torn Ukraine are housed.
“One Week Near Warsaw, ” https://www.kcbi.org/posts-from-poland/, offers a gripping, firsthand account of the Ukrainian war refugee experience and the courageous efforts by churches and ministry groups, such as KCBI’s ministry partner, Texas Baptist Men, to help them.
“You’ll hear stories like Natasha’s,” said Sonny. “On Natasha’s birthday she called her mom and dad in Kyiv. As they spoke, she could hear the sirens in the background as the bombs fell.”
That was when the violence first became real to her, she shared. She feared for her parents’ safety.
“As Natasha wrestled with those fears, she realized that ‘this was the perfect time to show people the love of Christ,’” Sonny continued. “That’s when her church became involved in the relief effort.”
In between handing out supplies and serving meals, Natasha calls home to make sure her parents are still alive. “What courage and faith!” said Sonny. “Natasha didn’t let the dangers faced by her family keep her from serving those in need. She jumped in and is giving her all.”
KCBI had asked listeners to match a $10,000 donation to Texas Baptist Men, which is financing five church shelters for Ukrainian refugees along the Polish border and Western Ukraine. They generously gave more than triple that amount, serving more than eight thousand refugees so far with food, water, clothing, blankets and Bibles.

“When Russia invaded, Ukrainian families fled in search of safety,” said Mickey Lenamon, Executive Director/CEO of Texas Baptist Men. “They arrived in Western Ukraine and Poland with very little. Thanks to the KCBI family, there are churches providing food, water, Bibles and shelter to these families in need. They are providing refuge for thesepeople and sharing that God is the refuge for us all.”
