KSWP/KAVX kicked off the upcoming Hurricane Season preparedness with their first meetings of the year. The Church and Community Emergency Response Team (CCERT) met in Lufkin on May 11th and Nacogdoches on May 18th to renew connections and welcome new members ahead of the storm season.
“The primary purpose of this team is to be the hub of reliable communication – to the radio station and to each other so that our community can receive timely important information. As a voice to 13 counties across East Texas it’s our honor to serve together”, commented General Manager, Michelle Ross
The CCERT Team formed in 2021 with almost 50 church and organizational leaders in Nacogdoches, Cherokee & Angelina counties committed to staying connected in the event our area faced a major weather event or community-wide emergency.
Charlie Woodrum, from the National Weather Service in Shreveport said, “This team was awarded the National Weather Service Weather-Ready Nation Ambassador of Excellence award for leading the way in preparing their communities and partnering together in the event of a high impact weather event. We are excited about being a part of this group”
