Canadian Christian Radio Comes to West Island Montreal
West Island Montréal now has a Christian English-Canadian radio station at 90.7 FM. General Manager, Bill Stevens says the signal is a repeat of the popular Ottawa programming from CHRI (Christian Hit Radio Inc.) featuring numerous Canadian artists, Canadian Bible teachers (Dr. John Neufeld and Jonathan Griffiths), and will integrate a local presence during the next year.
Unlike most CCM stations, CHRI carries a strong black gospel content with Montréal’s DJ Prosper Laguerre featured on his own program Powerhouse Radio airing Sunday evenings from 5 to 9 pm.
The historic launch happened low-key at 4:00 pm, November 30th, by afternoon drive host Care Baldwin. The first song played on the new frequency was “Silvery Bells” sung by Montréal-born Marc Martel and CCM legend Amy Grant.
