With different social media content forms at our disposal, it’s good to know the distinction between each of them as well as how to best leverage each form for discovery, engagement, and conversion.

First, let’s define the essence of each content form.

Stories are meant to give a more candid view of your brand to only those who follow you, although someone who visits your profile can see your Story in real time. Stories disappear 24 hours after posting unless you delete them sooner or permanently feature them on your account.

Posts are typically a thought via text, photo, or video intended to appear on your page forever (unless you delete them) and can be viewed by anyone on the platform.

Reels are short-form, vertical videos that can be up to 90 seconds long, can live online forever, and are designed to be distributed to more non-followers than followers.

The Purpose of Stories: Keep The Current Audience Engaged

In The Moment – What you’re doing right now, unpolished, behind-the-scenes, unexpected observations

Interaction – Questions, Polls, “Add Yours,” New Music, Quizzes, Rate Something, Tagging Products, Countdowns

Pinballing – Use links to blogs, ticket sales, giveaways, etc….to pull people onto the assets you own.

What a “Story” might look like:

The Purpose Of Posts: Provide A Lasting Presence (Snapshot) To Current & Potential Followers

(But there’s a big difference between Facebook posts & Instagram posts.)

Facebook Posts:

Memorable Moments – Unexpected experiences from interviews, your show, etc…. Occasions that live online forever, reminding people why they follow you.

Interaction – Questions, Polls, “Add Yours,” New Music, Quizzes, Rate Something, Tagging Products, Countdowns

Pinballing – Use links to blogs, ticket sales, giveaways, etc….to pull people onto the assets you own

Instagram Posts:

Make Them Feel Something – Inspiring, Informative, Encouraging, and/or Entertaining Content. No links, no questions – keep it highly visual.

The Purpose For Reels: Growth And Greater Discoverability

Brand Consistency – no matter what type of content you create with Reels, make sure it aligns with your brand – you can’t be all over the place.

Here’s why:

Reels receive wider distribution. So, when non-followers get exposed to your content and they like it, they go to your account to see more of what they liked.

If the content has no real consistency – you’ll never convert views to new followers.

Being brand-aligned also increases the chances of getting your content in the “explore” tabs to reach new audiences.

Just don’t always make it about you. This Reel (below) is a masterclass in teaching how to also include others – people like to see themselves or someone like them in the content, too.

This is from Deanna Cruz with MOVin/Seattle

The social space is certainly not easy – but it can get easier to manage when you have the right people and skill sets in place to make sense of it all.

Meta just released another study on the thoughts and behaviors of users on their platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, etc…

And below are five key areas that stood out to help guide a greater mission for leveraging social media in order to have a more relatable feel to your presence.

Meta’s Insights align with everything I have always believed social media stood for:

Interacting with the audience (while still so sorely overlooked) is a differentiator.

A positive experience with a brand can often matter more than brand quality itself.

People want to learn and know about what’s going on in their local communities.

They also want to get to know public figures better via social media.

And mostly: People want to feel a part of something.

Be that something.

From Meta:

This (Insights) tool is open to everyone from strategic marketers to curious strategists and allows you to download and share the latest insights.

You can easily scan through proprietary data and commissioned research to help guide your marketing strategy all free of cost.

The post 5 Facts For Greater Social Media Vision first appeared on CMB.

The post 5 Facts For Greater Social Media Vision appeared first on CMB.

The concern everyone should have with TikTok is it’s a Beijing-run company with Chinese Communist Party influence (which they deny) being given the opportunity to influence Americans over what information China considers accurate and that places massive power in their hands.

While there are multiple reasons to be alarmed – here’s one:

The version of TikTok shipped to China has a built-in daily time limit for kids 12-years-old & younger and the only content people are allowed to consume is science and education. The version shipped here in the U.S. offers unlimited use and any type of content we want to see.

It is often a very divisive app with a combination of people and bots leaving hurtful comments on everyone’s (including kids’) content. That alone should make every parent ban TikTok. The damage this app is doing to vulnerable people is awful.

This should not be a political issue – this is a national safety issue.

When former President Trump signed an executive order that blocked people from downloading the app in August 2020, it was done because intelligence was tipped off that the Chinese Communist Party was collecting Americans’ personal and proprietary information. The order was never enforced due to legal challenges; then Biden revoked the order.

Byte Dance denied that back in 2020. But they have never once come out with any transparency over what intel they are collecting from those of us who use the app.

We don’t know what we don’t know. But there is a reason government employees here in the U.S. are not allowed to download the app. They know something.

As a brand – it’s everyone’s individual call. But I see more upside in creating on and using apps like Facebook and Instagram that while flawed – are not risking our national security.
