Sowing Seed – Reaping a Harvest

Do you ever look at what God is doing in the life of a fellow believer and think, “Why doesn’t God bless me like that?”  Have you ever taken notice of another radio ministry that is really making a difference and wonder, “Why isn’t my ministry bearing as much fruit as theirs?”

If we are reading God’s Word, understanding what it means and putting God’s truths into practice, the Lord will bless our efforts.  While we see God’s blessings on the work we do, it’s easy to compare what’s happening in our ministry to what’s happening in another ministry and feel like we just don’t measure up.

Jesus talked to His disciples about sowing seed and reaping a harvest.  The interesting thing to me is that when Jesus was talking about seed sown in the good soil, the size of the crops was different for each sower.

In Matthew 13:23 Jesus said, “As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.”

Did you catch that?  The seed was planted in good soil by all three farmers, yet the harvest was different for each of them.

Whether God has placed you in a small market with a tiny budget or a large market with lots of competition in the marketplace, God is interested in your faithful obedience to what He has called you to do.  We should strive to sow faithfully, work diligently and be content with the harvest God provides.  For as Paul said in Galatians 6:9, “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
