Seasons

A few months ago, some of my peers and I were studying the concept of the “seasons” of life in our regular Bible study. As a missionary kid and growing up in the church, Bible verses referencing seasons have been engrained into my head, but it wasn’t until this specific day that some of those passages really hit home for me.

The one verse that comes to mind is Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 ESV

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace”.

The Bible is full of seasonal pivot points –moments when God drove change that altered the course of a story. Most of the time, these changes weren’t welcome and often resisted.

Here’s the part that really impacted me: All of us are in a season written in that Ecclesiastes verse but not all of us are in the same season at the same time. The people you surround yourself with are all going through their own season today. Some are living their best lives and some are struggling just to wake up and make it through the day.

Understanding that God created these seasons to fulfill a greater purpose helps us navigate through them knowing he is in control of the outcome.

If you are in Winter today, know that Spring is coming. If you’re experiencing beautiful flowering life right now, you are guaranteed that a Winter is heading your way, so be prepared.

Know that you’re going to have good and bad seasons but you are meant to thrive in all of them. So, embrace them!
