I am calling a personal moratorium on nonproductive use of my energy.
Instead, I am funneling my energy, on “celebrating” ….
This is a year of new decades…
My sister Pam will turn 60 this year. Pam goes to work, when the rest of us are ready to call it a day. She arrives at the hospital at 10:00 p.m. to begin her overnight shift. She isn’t a Dr or a nurse…she cleans. She cleans the operating rooms, patient’s rooms, floors and bathrooms. She is grateful for her $24.00 hr. job…she works hard.
My husband Jerry will turn 70 this year. Jerry is a character, but he is my character and I love him for who he is… a highly opinioned, fiscally conservative, tree-hugging democrat. He speaks fondly of being a hippie in the 60’s…. which in many ways prepared him for his 45 year career in chemical addiction counseling. He continuous to demonstrate “tough love” on his clients battling addictions. He works alongside each one of them without shame or judgment…. but with a heart’s desire to see each of them live a clean, healthy, long life. He works hard…
My father, Monty will turn 80 this year. He recently announced that he is going to retire on his July 24th, 80th birthday. His drive from Mankato to Shakopee’s, Nelson’s RV Dealership has served him well. His customers love him; he is from the old school. Treat people with respect, earn their trust and treat them fairly….and you will have a customer for life. My dad has worked hard…
We are in unprecedented times….as I look around I see unnecessary amounts of time and energy debating, positioning, arguing, confronting, jockeying, demonstrating and manipulating. I am exhausted from the shear observation of how fear is being played out. Fear is the fruit, not the root. The root is unbelief in our hearts. Unbelief in our God who says He is who He says He is, and will do what He says He will do. When we respond with unbelief, we are saying to God that He is untrustworthy. Therefore, during these times, our fear responses are really saying, “I don’t trust you will come thru”.
2 Timothy 1:7 says, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of power and of love and of sound mind.”
America has functioned—albeit, at varying levels of success—for years under the direction of alternating Democrat and Republican control, and at every flip, the other side thought it was the end of the world. It is not. If we’re a Church that believes God is in control, we have to believe that He is the one in control—not whoever’s in office now, and not whoever succeeds them.
God knew that our world needed saving long before any national government was found. He demonstrated to the world that redemption could not be accomplished through the power of man, his economic strength, his military might or his politics.
Pease of mind, contentment, hope and joy- the salvation of humankind’s redemption is accomplished only through His son Jesus.
So I am calling a personal moratorium on nonproductive use of my time and energy….and instead, celebrate lives that have given me joy and who have shown me love….I want to celebrate mile stones and accomplishments. I want to recognize a hard day’s work and toast each person as they enjoy their many decades of life.….and I am going to do this knowing that God has this unprecedented time under control.
