 Tell us about your station:

Joy FM celebrates 20 years this year with a keen eye on formatics and creating experiences to inspire listeners to live passionately for Jesus Christ. With a tight playlist and highly focused research, the radio-goal has always been to win by making decisions that major market successful stations would make.

Your station’s most successful promotion:

Based upon numbers of entries, we had an on-air audition to win a duet on stage with Jason Crabb. That promotion generated over 40,000 entries!

From an incredible impact in the community perspective: we recently held a sold out event to honor law enforcement last December, featuring music by The Isaacs and Emily Ann Roberts from NBC’s “The Voice.” During that event, we were able to publicly honor uniformed men and women of law enforcement and provide a powerful moment of prayer and ovation for their service in our communities!

Resources your station uses:

Asana is a major game-changer for internal communication
i58:10 has helped train our entire staff to be professional and passionate fundraisers for our mission and vision.

One bit of wisdom to share with others:

Implement! There is so much good information from good resources these days, even for stations with low budgets. Implementation (actually “do it”) is the secret advice here. Come back from conferences, webinars, or blog articles with items you put on your to-do list and follow through. It really will make a difference!

Share an impactful listener story:

A listener in Charlottesville VA scanned across the dial and landed on our station. She was a Buddhist, but had a Christian friend really helping her understand the Gospel of Grace. On this Sunday, she had actually just prayed a prayer with her friend and accepted Christ. Only hours into her Christian faith journey, she was in her car and happened upon Joy FM. The first song she heard was a line that said “I walked by the tomb of Buddha…” The song goes on to point out that Jesus’ tomb is empty. She was absolutely floored that God would speak to her so soon and clearly. P.S. it is the ONLY song we have that mentions Buddha. What are the odds? Praise the Lord!

Tell us why you’re a member of CMB:

CMB Membership has allowed us to plug into other stations in our industry who are doing amazing work. Borrowing ideas, getting advice, and an overall feeling that we aren’t alone in struggles is worth the price of admission! But again, you have to use it. Don’t just walk away feeling good, actually take this stuff back to your stations and make it work for you!
