What is your favorite song?
“Baby Shark” – I’m KIDDING!! Lauren Daigle, “You Say” – this song speaks to my heart like few others have. People need this message, badly!
What is the last book you’ve read?
Brene Brown, “Dare to Lead” (a-MAY-zing read)
What led you to a career in radio?
Actually, an internship with the sales department at WJFK-FM (CBS Radio, DC) got me started, gave me the “bug”, then God brought me where He wanted me, right at WPER-FM/Positive Alternative Radio!
What advice would you give people new to the business?
Oh my – pray hard, work hard, and believe with all you can that God has a purpose for you here. It will never be an easy path, but what you are doing in Christian Radio is changing the world. And after all, as we say across PAR, Easy Never Changed the World. #ENCW
Give a shoutout to someone who is making a difference in radio and what are they doing to make an impact?
I know some may read this and think “she has to say that, right?” but it’s the God-honest truth. Brian Sanders, PAR EVP – for the primary reason that he is working hard to have an influence on leadership within the industry and that is something that will impact every single one of us. There are too many on-air personalities doing amazing things to name, and too many promotions/engagement people working with the community to even attempt to address. The work Brian is doing with the industry at large will impact every single one of us.
How do you refresh your creative energy at work?
What’s that? Refresh? Huh? Haha, no to refresh I mainly need to step away from the office, get some fresh air, and connect with God. I do what I can to participate in spiritual growth outside of the station because that is how I keep my cup filled. He is the only way.
Amazon Echo or Google Home?
Amazon all the way! (Alexa is listening, so I actually do have to say that)
What is your favorite part of your job?
The PEOPLE!! I love building relationships with our listeners and donors, to get to know the person behind the face or the voice on the other end of the line. They are good people, who genuinely care about the ministry, and we often have way more in common than we might initially realize.
Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff and why do you like them?
Blanca at WGTS – I travel to Northern VA a lot as that is where my family lives so I get to hear her occasionally, and WGTS is the station I guess you could say I “grew up” with. She is just so real on-air, and every time I’ve had the pleasure to run into her at a show we’re both working she’s always been very, very kind.
What was your last non-industry job?
I waited tables for about 8 years at local restaurants, I still miss the free food…
Tell me about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career.
I don’t know that I could point to one thing specifically, but I can point to my role as Asst GM for WPER-FM, and the opportunity to work alongside some amazing people, to learn from one of the greatest programmers in the industry (Frankie Morea!), and to serve an incredible team and pour into them as much as I can.
Teach me something I don’t know in the next five minutes.
My husband and I love to take cooking classes. We took one in Charleston SC a few years back and in it we learned the origin of “Chess Pie” – according to them it was from a diner in a restaurant who loved the dessert he was given, and when he asked what it was, the chef said “it’s jes pie” with a sweet southern accent. He thought she said “chess pie” and hence the name was born!
You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
Autumn Leaves – maybe it’s because the colors have been so vibrant this season, but my heart literally feels like it’s dancing when I see them.
