What is your favorite song?
I’m a huge fan of “Warrior” by Hannah Kerr.  Female pop vocals + little bit of grit = instant favorite for me.

What is the last book you’ve read?
I’ve been reading “Everybody Always” by Bob Goff, but the last one I finished was the “Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe” (Narnia).  My wife has been trying to get me to read that for probably 8 years now.

What led you to a career in radio?
Total God thing.  I claim zero credit.  I was several interviews into the application process to be an audio engineer for Elevation Church when the position at the Bridge came up.  I was trying to move to NC, and God said “Nope, you’re not done in Delaware.”  I can’t believe I get to do this.

What advice would you give people new to the business?
Well considering I’ve only been doing this for 8 months… Throw whatever you think you “know” out the window, and lean in close to those who’ve been doing it for years.  We live in the age of Youtube; where everyone can “learn” skills by watching videos, but it’s all theory until you actually use the information.  Therefore drop the attitude that you know what you’re doing, and focus on what the experienced do.

Give a shoutout to someone who is making a difference in radio and what are they doing to make an impact?
Honestly I’m still learning the industry, so I wouldn’t know the difference between a trailblazer and someone stuck in a rut.  I am however blown away by the well-oiled machine that is the Bridge.  My co-workers are so incredible at their jobs.  They’re a great example of that verse in 1 Corinthians about the body being many parts.  Everyone has a specific role and they do it with excellence.

How do you refresh your creative energy at work?
Change rooms!  This is where laptops come in handy.  There’s something about changing the ambient sounds, lighting, and smell of where you work.

Amazon Echo or Google Home?
I was raised by two parents who spent over 50 years collectively working for NSA (National Security Agency), so neither.  Do I own every other device on the planet? Yes. But there’s just something funny to me about inviting a device into your home that’s designed for listening and interacting with speech…

What is your favorite part of your job?
My job is my favorite part of my job.  I get to edit audio, encourage our region on air, and help with occasional video production.  …and there’s always coffee and snacks.

Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff and why do you like them?
Dave Moore from Star 99.1 is the man.  If every radio host was a dinosaur in Jurassic Park, he would be the genetically engineered one that all the other dinosaurs don’t mess with.  He’s doing the same job as everyone else, but I just feel like he dominates.

What was your last non-industry job?
Head of Production at a medium/ large church in our area.

Tell me about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career.
One of my favorite things that I’ve stumbled upon is a tradition that I’ve seen some music producers/ engineers do.  They have their Grammy’s on display above their toilet.  The reasoning is that they want to keep their accomplishments “behind” them.  It doesn’t matter what you’ve done, or what you’re going to do.  What matters is what you’re doing today.  I’ve got a lot that I’m proud of, but that doesn’t matter.  Right now I’m at the Bridge.

Teach me something I don’t know in the next five minutes.
Keyboard shortcuts are your friend.  (Macs press command/ PCs press control instead) In most programs Command C is copy, Command V is Paste, Command S is Save, Command P is print.  It blows my mind how often I see people go to the dropdown menus for simple tasks.  LEARN YOUR SHORTCUTS!  I’m especially speaking to those who edit audio.  You will shave off so much time if you learn the keyboard shortcuts associated with your editing software.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
I like orange, and I like it the way it is.  Always in your face.  However I don’t want to be known for that… sooooo “In your face when it needs to be Orange.”
