What is your favorite song?
Can we just change this to favorite artist??  Yep, everything Coldplay!

What is the last book you’ve read?
I’m a mom of 3 teenage girls…no time to read!!

What led you to a career in radio?
Three things…Operation Prom Dress, being willing to be used by God and Dave Ryerson.  Apparently, when you ask God “How do you want to use me?” He answers in a way you never thought He’d answer.  I started a ministry through our church called Operation Prom Dress in 2007 where we give high school girls prom dresses, jewelry, shoes; a local salon provides services such as make-up, hair, nails for them on the day of their prom…this is all for free.  We wash their feet and have speakers throughout the 2-day event sharing about their self-worth, identity in Christ and discuss prom-related issues.   I had been praying for “the next adventure” (as if raising 3 daughters and running a ministry wasn’t enough) and God used this ministry to prepare me for the next step…radio.  I needed volunteers for this event and with Life 96.5 doing a hands and feet opportunity each month, this was a natural fit to come in and share about it.  And that started the ball rolling right on into radio! Dave had seen something in me and took a chance on this goofy stay at home mom!  One of his gifts is mentoring and he has been just that, such an awesome mentor and encourager, sharing his wisdom of radio with me and believing that I could be a Program Director.  Between him and God, I would not be in radio.

What advice would you give people new to the business?
Love God, love others! And be authentic…it’s true!  I’ll never forget chatting with a listener at one of our sticker stops and at the end she said “you really are who you are on air…you aren’t fake!” That is why they listen; to connect with you, see that you are just like them (struggles and all) and to become friends…somebody they “know”.

Give a shoutout to someone who is making a difference in radio and what are they doing to make an impact?
LuAnn Schafer is doing some really cool promotions at Star 99.1. I’m so proud of her!  She soaks up every piece of wisdom that is thrown her way and turns it into something amazing!  Plus, give the girl an award for running through the street of NY, making multiple trips on foot, subway and car with all the promotional items.

How do you refresh your creative energy at work?
Often times by going for a walk or just sitting outside with the sounds and beauty of nature surrounding me

Amazon Echo or Google Home?
Since we have a skill for it, I better say Amazon Echo 🙂

What is your favorite part of your job?
The people…hands down!  Getting to know their story

Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff and why do you like them?
Suzanne from the Z is so sweet…makes you feel like you are super important and is such an encourager on and off air.  She has a special way of making you feel like you are her best friend, always willing to help and, of course, fun!

What was your last non-industry job?
Does being a stay-at-home mom count??

Tell me about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career.
What was really special is seeing the culmination of our prayers, ideas and work coming together in our last ratings book, which had the station as #1 12+…people will gravitate to good radio and this confirms to us, we’re doing good in our market.  And the best thing about that is, that means more people are hearing and connecting with the Gospel!

Teach me something I don’t know in the next five minutes.
Years ago, my step-grandma owned her own flower shop and so she taught me a few tips to make your flowers last longer…before you put roses in a vase, cut the stems at an angel, creating a larger surface area so they draw in more water.  Also, cut them under running water so no air bubbles get trapped inside the stem…helping them to last longer as well!

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
You know the color of the ocean that is clear and a beautiful blue? That…I would be that!  It seems so serene and tranquil…well, until I see a shark coming
