What led you to a career in the radio industry?

I started off in secular radio at WKIS-KISS Country in Miami as an account executive in sales. God blessed my work there and I moved up to be their Regional Sales Account Manager. When my two children started at a local Christian School, I ended up meeting the head pastor to Calvary Chapel Ft. Lauderdale and he ended up asking me to come and work at his Christian Radio station, WREH-ReachFM. I was honored for the invitation, however, I was very comfortable and happy where I was at. I ended up turning down the invitation at first; several months later I felt the prompting to really pray and fast about the invitation to go into ministry and Christian radio and after three days of prayer and fasting, God clearly showed me I was to GO…and make disciples through the platform of Christian radio.  He gave be several confirmations, one being the following scriptures: Romans 12:2.

What advice would you give people new to the business?

Look at it as a calling and not just as a job. Because when you are called to something, you strap yourself in, like on a roller coaster…and no matter the turns and twists, ups and down, you weather them. Because you know when you are called to something it is for a higher purpose other than yourself and you’ll do it for the Lord.

Give a shoutout to someone who is making a difference in radio and what are they doing to make an impact?

I have been working at WAY-FM now for almost three years and I get the privilege of working with our precious donors. I know through regular contact with these donors that Wally and his team, from The Wally Show on WAY-FM mornings, make a big difference in these listeners’ lives. His authenticity, humor and heart have won their hearts and I truly believe he is helping to influence this generation to love and follow Jesus, just like our mission statement.

Tell us about a story of a Christian song that made a difference in your life or the life of a listener.

My children are 14 and 12 now, but back when I was praying through the big decision on whether or not to put them into Christian school or go to our local public school, I was really wrestling with this big decision. I remember praying and asking God for confirmation. Right after I got done praying and crying out to the Lord in the car, I flipped on Christian radio and on came Voice of Truth by Casting Crowns. God used the lyrics of that song to speak to me and I knew which route to go. Months later, I had the chance to have Casting Crowns headline our annual ReachFest. As they sang this song, I stood in worship and praise for God’s faithfulness and His incredible love for me and for my family.
